I found this on the Caspian Sea beach some time ago. I polished it a bit, was unable to ID it, so I put it aside until a few weeks earlier. Let me show you the stone first: the stone is about 1.5 inches long, naturally rounded to 3 ~flat sides Photo quality is not so good (indoors, night time, first post !). I recently saw a few cabs called "Agatized dinosaur bone", also known as Gem Bone or Fossilized dinosaur bone. Google image search of these terms brings up interesting images. The texture on this stone looks similar to those, the brown - orange - yellow color is also similar. I am afraid I failed to take good photos that show the texture, but it would be great if anyone could identify this stone. Also, is the term "Agatized sth" correct? Aren't agates formed in holes in rocks? Wm

I'm not very confident that it is gem bone. I think Mel Sabre52 would be a good person to ask about agate terms. He should find your post with that link i just made.

Looks pixelated, so I can see why you would see gem bone. But there are no obvious cell walls. Just pixels made if what seems to be brightly colored crystals.
It is heavily fractured.
I'll defer to Mel referred to above. Maybe quartzite with large grains

Yeah, I'm in the "not bone" opinion group. Definitely a quartz material and Scott's guess of quartzite looks pretty good to me too....Mel

Quartzite? It may well be, Let me see if photos from the other side of the stone help shed more light on this

Ok, these photos are a bit clearer than previous ones. It's sad... I will call you a quartzite now. Now, this is why I thought the stone was a "Gem bone". These are some photos of agatized dinosaur bone that I found similar to mine: (owner)(owner)

Well, there is a resemblance,But the lines just don't look like cell structures...That's only my opinion though-Don't take it at heart...

Sorry, I'm in the 'no' camp too. The 'pixels' look like restructuring is starting to form crystals. Strange tho' - the dots within circles - possible oolites, would normally have expected them to have morphed early in the process.
