Been clearing this area for several months off and on. Grove is a large type of attractive large bamboo called Robert Young. Estimated area about 1/2 acre. Must have cut and burned 200 trees from 3 - 10 inches at stump. Steep slope, a bit challenging area to work. Clearing now sunny and will coax bamboo towards the warm rich forest soil. Old established grove will colonize it rapidly over the next few years.   Found a single cane 40 feet away into the clearing. Little cane to right of knife. That's about all it takes. Work finished other than a few Round Up applications to stumps. sit back and wait game.  |

A tired James, belt got almost 3 notches smaller. Slept over 70 hours in 6 days LOL. Tree work unending.  |

Looking hale and hearty there James! That is going to be a nice grove. Will be a satisfying thing to watch from here on.

You do have that "kinda tired" look on your face there, James. Another eleven hours of sleep will have you rip-raring ready to go!!!!  Btw, I was thinking about you today. I put a set of tires on a 2000 BMW Z3 today and noted the shiny brake discs. Of course the Z3 is a much lighter (2-seater) vehicle BUT...I still didn't let my fingers tarry in any possible pinch areas for very long! Wheel bolts rather than lug nuts are used to fasten the wheels to the hubs. I noticed that the ring that the wheel slips onto to help hold it in position when you're screwing in the bolts had galvanic corrosion in that area...aluminum/steel. I had to bump all of the wheels to get them to come loose from that 1/4" high ring....I thought about you while I was doing that.  |

That farm is the lot that was dealt to me. Large or small, enjoy your spot on earth.
Seem to spend more time on a few 1000 sq ft than the entire 30 acres.

Mixed metals and oxidation not helping. No excuses, gravity clearly tells you where not to put fingers. She can be cruel at times. |

Would have had to clear too many large trees. The other ridge had been timbered, so it was chosen. Yes, it is the 'quiet evening' spot with the sound of the fast flowing creek. |

Looking good my friend and now you need a much needed break........ Warm season is pretty much schnitt and get around here. Would do the is type of work even if wealthy Michael. Something about working the land brings great peace. Sleep like 2 lines snorted with out the substance abuse. May drop a plow on that knob, betting some native folks hung out up there. Had an old fence line running thru this mess, got to avoid the metal using a saw. Removing fence tedious in this territory. |

Run 100's of miles of fencing,it's in the blood! Montana and North Dakota.....Working the land,love it-it's called a good tired by me!
Like pain,I have a bad pain and a good pain..(something worth doing,regardless of the pain)...
I can remember 12 hour days on the farms and ranches I worked for...LOL

What do you want with all that bamboo? Got asked that recently indiana. Personal enjoyment mainly. We do sell repurposed stuff at the farm and the bamboo adds to client's/visitor's experience. It takes over exponentially like a giant green blob; makes for some dynamic gardening. Copy and paste from the same recently asked question: Meditate ? Reduce mowing area. Groom it for film productions that have yet to happen. Wind breaks. Winter greenery. Love of gardening. Eat the fresh shoots. Projects. Bonfires. Make tunnels thru it. Used to sell it in giant pots. Mainly for beauty personal enjoyment, figuring it will make an income for film/photo shoots. Yet to attract any pandas. For fun facts: Shaun: Jim I'm sure you can contract with the new zoo in Madison georgia for when they get pandas of if they need some boo for their huts and thing they will build. Jim: The pandas instantly become Georgia rednecks, favoring our good ole native river cane from what i understand. Ta hell with oriental bamboo, they like that southern cookin The Atlanta Zoo did collect 20 different Asian bamboos from me to see what the newly arrived Atlanta pandas favored.(year ago) And it is a fact, they prefer the native semi-arundinaria river cane.(they eat like 200 pounds/day !). |
