Finally removed a dense grove of small bamboo. Well, they keep shooting and I have to keep nipping them off with a weed wacker April to May.  Large bamboo being groomed to spread into the old grove of smaller bamboo. Like standing soldiers, new shutes will spread into old grove. Target is to let it spread over the burned areas and all the way to the shed.  Larger bamboo roots will run deeper than small bamboo roots. It will also shade out the smaller. About the only way to effectively kill the smaller stuff. Stripped ring gear/axle finally killed one of the 3 wheelers after 20 years hard duty. Bought this one for $500 and stored it 12 years. local mechanic got it going, finished it yesterday. Low hours, should go 20 more.  Hoping to get this one for parts. Tires/starter motor/brakes/rear axle/stator, a deal. Craig's List, $350. Love these machines.  |

Bamboo has a mind of its own James...LOL Some old time machines there-Oh boy!!!!! My brother Kay broke his neck on one,herding cattle!
Won't even get on a motorcycle or 4 wheeler anymore....

Them 3-wheelers are dimensionally unstable and just plumb dangerous haha. I had one back in the eighties - bought it brand new a Honda 350. Took it out and crashed it a few times - and ran over my own foot a few times - before I exorcised it out of my life. It doesn't surprise me one bit that they stopped making them in favor of the more stable quads.

Tommy fossilman they are just used for plodding around on the farm and slow exploration. Would never corral cattle or trust young folks on them. Definitely squirrelly. Wife slowly rolled up on her leg and got peeled away from the controls for several hours. She was captured till I found her. Not injured, just like a hornet mad lol.

Kinda curious, and maybe I missed (read: forgot) an explanation given before, but why the bamboo?
Is there a financial incentive to growing it?

Wife slowly rolled up on her leg and got peeled away from the controls for several hours. She was captured till I found her. Haha yeah that's what I meant - rolled up the back of my own leg a few times. Not life threatening but it would scare the pants off of you in a hurry. You do that going fast enough and its very dangerous. Makes me cringe and a shoot of pain up my spine just looking at those. Ughhh... |

One of my friends was riding mine and it skinned him off the seat and spit him out like a piece of rubber. A complete follow thru. He was a wiry small guy and survived fine but stretched and sore. Crowd witnessed it and could not stop laughing, cold. Where that video camera when you need it ! |

Kinda curious, and maybe I missed (read: forgot) an explanation given before, but why the bamboo? Is there a financial incentive to growing it? In general: Meditate ? Reduce mowing area. Groom it for film productions that have yet to happen. Wind breaks. Winter greenery. Love of gardening. Eat the fresh shoots. Projects. Bonfires. Make tunnels thru it. Used to sell it in 40 gal pots. Mainly for beauty personal enjoyment, figuring it will make an income for film/photo shoots. In this case, a wind break to block cold northerly winds and a hedge to hide the ugly nursery operation. Long ago I sold about 100-150 forty gallon pots of it every year. $200 each, good change There was a Columbian fellow near you (Brannen FL ??) that grew all the stock for Orlando's Disney World back when. He did make big money. |

These are 250's and way lighter, not that it matters so much. But the fact that they are so light helps. They are efficient at backing trailers and are a primary nursery tool. Me and a half dozen go riding in the mountains and I have no problem keeping up with the quads. In tight turny areas it dusts them, light weight and nimble. You have to use your hips and the throttle to kind of power slide a bit, otherwise you will kiss dirt. Better when light weight and better with more power to break loose. Honda made a 250 2 stroke and it was the master of death. It was the one that caused the big stir. |

Neck injuries Scott, that was the big issue. After learning them they can be ridden quite safe, but they need power to power slide in turns. Otherwise they roll. |

Had a 350X with a pipe and cam. What an animal! There was a large gravel pit that we would ride in. We would climb very high gravel piles and jump off of them. Would only be 3-4 feet above the side of the pile but may drop 30-50 feet before landing. It was a hard landing if you misjudged. Young or younger and dumb. Sure makes for great memories!.......................................MrP

The weight of those things would be tough to lift for even the strongest men. My son has one and lets his son 12 ride it at the gravel pit but strict orders to not go out of second gear and has only had to take it away once. It is funny because every time the boy circles around and comes close to his dad he hollers "I love you dad". jamesp Your motorcycle is the way to go, all you have to do is put a reverse gear in it.  It is easy to see how handy the three wheelers would be in your situation. Light enough to get unstuck from a tight place but heavy enough to drag around just about anything. I miss having that kind of room to move around in but I do not miss the work involved to take proper care of it. Lots of people from outside of Montana thought they wanted the same thing but abandoned it within a fairly short time. Large area of mini farms that are standing idle just waiting for someone with enough grit to take care of them. The few that stuck had enough money to hire help but even some of those left after 3 to 5 years because they were not sustainable. Not many people around that can come up with a hundred ways to make money like you do either. Strong back, strong artistic mind and a wife kicking your ass. Can it get any better than that? Not saying your wife kicks your ass but it looks like she comes up with some pretty good ideas herself. Artists should rule the world as long as I do not have to help do that. Jim |
