Montana agates are hard. Really hard. I may have set a personal record for length of time tumbled. I didn't keep track, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of these were in the rough tumble stage for nearly a year. Definitely over six months for a lot o them. I did not do any grinding on these other that what the tumbler did, so I could have moved some along a little faster if I had been willing to sacrifice a wheel. There may be a couple in this batch that are not Montanas, I'm not sure. They were all the Montana box. By the way, these came from kap in a trade. Thanks Keith! You may want to compare these rotary/vibe Montanas with the ones I did a while back totally in the vibe. Both batches were from rocks I got from Keith. The rocks done in just the vibe are a lot bigger. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 This is my favorite, so it gets a front and back shot. Is it a Montana? 14

You have a lot of patience Rob. The one in picture 5 on the right is hands down my favorite. Number 13 sure looks like botswana agate. Whole batch are keepers. Picture number 11 looks like it has small impact marks. I might be seeing some in other pictures like 10 and 13. Seems like jamesp has talked about that pattern showing up on rocks before. How much ceramic did you have in this batch? Chuck

That last one is a KILLER! I agree geezer...makes me imagine a meteor storm or maybe fireballs from a volcano falling to earth... Nice tumbles Rob!!! Thanks for sharing the photos!

I noticed those marks too. I don't think I've gotten those before. I probably was a little light on the ceramics this time, maybe only 20%.

I remember seeing a post here showing a pattern of half moon marks on a batch and being discussed. Wish I could remember who it was. Could have been me. That's about how good my memory is. Chuck

Chuck I just reloaded the Lot-O and I'm going to adjust my estimate of ceramics for the Montana batch up to 30%. I think that discussion involved jamesp.

Nice Montanas!! I find crescent marks on rough Montanas sometimes . Usually they are clear and near the surface. Have found a few that have inclusions that I think they were likely formed in the agate.

Wow!! Those are nice. My faves are #3,8,12 and 13. I have some running in stage one.....it sure does take a long time, but they sure are pretty.

Love these! I've been eyeballing Montana's for a while and want to give them a go. Still working with the 33b, so it sounds like one barrel will be tied up for a while.

Those are some sweet Montana agates. You patience shows off as those are all perfectly shaped, and that takes time. Be willing to bet those last two pics are a Botswana that slipped into the Montana pile somehow. -Don
