Preforms again. These polished nicely though in retrospect it was too many larger sized pieces... Adding some prepolished river stones helped a little... But I won't do it quite like this again. Anyway -- Side view to show polish: A few favorites This one almost glows and the drusy pit actually stayed intact and is super sparkly! These jaspers are just the best - I know now first-hand why they are called "porcelain" A view underwater, anyone? And just because I love that these colors are all natural: Thanks for looking!

Wow, those a awesome! When you do flats in the Lot-O, it's a good idea to use a high percentage of ceramics.

Great shine for any experience level. I would normally say use at least 50 percent mixed sized ceramics in a cab or preform load but I dont think you had any issue getting the large flat areas to shine so keep doing whatever you did.
Your jasper's look like really nice picture jasper and maybe owyhee jasper. I do not think those are in the porcelain category. Willow creek jasper is a good example of porcelian jasper.

Thanks, guys! I'm pretty excited. Jugglerguy I used about 3# mixed ceramics. I made the comment about too many large pieces bc those slabs like to stick together and I always feel like I need to pull them apart when I check on them... But I guess the grit was getting in between there anyway... Drummond Island Rocks ah, I thought the owyhee and succor creek fit in that category so thanks for the correction. They polish so nicely, though! I have one willow creek waiting for the next batch - can't wait to see how it will turn out.

Very nice! Shinny and well shaped. I've been experimenting with shaped and rounded tumbled pieces together in the Lot-O. So far they play well together. I do also use ceramic pellets to help get all the stones rolling.

Nice looking batch. Did you grind the edges of your slabs?

Dont know anything about ceramics. Do you use grit also or are the ceramics rough and they are the grit?

spicemanCeramics can replace smaller stones in a tumbling batch. They're not really too good as grit. I have a lot of small agate so I just mix them in instead. A good mix of sizes results in a better grind and polish.

Nice looking batch. Did you grind the edges of your slabs? Not me. The only equipment I have are tumblers - I buy the performs already preformed. One day... I didn't think I'd want to do more than tumble but it's true this becomes addicting...

Dont know anything about ceramics. Do you use grit also or are the ceramics rough and they are the grit? The ceramics fill the space so 1, the slabs don't just bang into each other, and 2 to help carry the grit. And that's really the extent of my knowledge. I've seen several places where they are recommended in a high ratio for preforms. I think many people who fill the barrel with rocks don't use them at all? And yep - same amount of grit you'd use otherwise - so far anyway.
