I have a lot of Woodward Ranch red and black plume slabs but due to the nature of the material a lot of the time you have to cut it very thin to see the plumes especially the black plumes. Because they are so thin they are generally not suitable for cabs unless you make a doublet or triplet out of it. This cab is 1-5/8: tall and it is a doublet. This is the slab that I made it from. The back side was relatively free from pits and divots so I glued it to the synthetic quartz. As you can see this side was rather rugged. I ground it down to get rid of the defects and made it the surface for the back of the cab. This photo is of the original slab backlit. With this bright light you could see the plumes but not very clearly. Bob

That is just absolutely beautiful! Now let's see, where did I put those old too dark to cab Woodward Ranch Plume pieces I found in a collection I bought a few years back? Might be time for me to dig them out again! Larry C.

For my monthly article for Rock and Gem Magazine I wrote about making a doublet out of the Black Plume. It should be in the July edition. Bob

What a beauty! You enhanced the plumes very well.

Stunner!!! Thanks for showing the process pictures. I would never know by looking at that rock that you could get such a nice doublet.

It's this type of post where I can understand the possibilities in a rock and different approaches to creating a cab. Thanks for that!
