Hi, My brother-inlaw sent me some turq. that he found in New Mexico. Since I am new to all this I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips. I tumbled them for 14 days in a coarse material and they still have an outer coating of rock or something.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Judy, What coarse material did you tumble your turquoise in and what kind of tumbler do you have? I'm not one of the experienced folks here, but maybe if the experienced ones had a little more info, they could give you some good pointers. I know I would be interested in hearing their suggestions!

Er, are you sure it's turquoise? Turquoise is very soft, I'd suspect that after fourteen days in coarse grind you'd likely be left with only turquoise powder.
No matter; if they don't look done after two weeks, roll 'em for another week, and repeat as needed.

I've got turquoise I've been working on for a while. It has a nasty smell, because of the copper and it seems difficult to get it shaped evenly because it wears so quickly. I have it on the back burner for now, but just following the 7 days each step has produced some good polished pieces for me. They are just real 'Lumpy' for lack of a better word.
