Howdy All!- I have an old (green factory paint)]LS-12 slab saw that I'm rehabbing for a friend. I pulled the bearings so I could take it to the car wash and discovered 1 of the bearings had a chip outta the casting. I know to call Lortone for parts, but I know they'll be pricey, so I'm throwing it out there in the event someone has an old broken down unit with good bearings remaining.. I'm not looking for free, reasonable price or could trade rough rocks or slabs. Check your sheds... Thanks for looking.

I replaced the bearings in my OLD lortone Spartan 18 inch saw. They were pillow block bearings, I called Lortone and they said with a saw that old, they had no information on the bearings. The bearings had the fafnir number and I found some on EBay. Do you have a number of the bearing?

They're not clean yet, soaking overnight in petrol. Will look for number in the morning. Since Lortone still makes the LS 12, I'm hoping there's a set out there somewhere. These are also pillow block style.

Those aren't unique to the machine, are a "hardware part". The numbers on yours can be cross-referenced to a set available today. A bearing cross reference chart or bearing supplier can help with that. May also be available on flea bay. Put your number and shaft size up on here when you get them.

Unless they have changed in the last couple of years Lortone is using imported JIB brand bearings. And if your older 12" saw uses the same size bearing as the newer 12" Lortone saws (size UC204-12)it will have a 3/4" inside diameter for the arbor shaft and an approximately 1-7/8" outside diameter. These can be purchased online for $7.95 each here tinyurl.com/hqgq275 . But FYI when I was running my saws 8-10 hours per day 5-6 days per week a new set of JIB bearings would only last about four months. To my knowledge there are no insert bearings this size being manufactured in the U.S. anymore. I have tried several brands and have not been impressed with any of the imported insert bearings. If you have an old industrial supply company in your area it might be worth checking with them to see if they may have some old stock USA made bearings that will fit. Larry C.

I buy mine at the local auto parts store. The number is PT NPS012-RPC. I can not remember what I paid for them but I don't think they were very expensive. That is a 3/4" shaft insert for a pillow block so take your pillow block to make sure it will fit in the hole because I have no idea whether or not my bearings are standard. Actually, any pillow block for a 3/4" shaft will work as long as the bolt holes are close and the base to center of shaft is somewhere in the ball park because that determines whether or not the shaft will fit through the hole in the side of the box. If the blade is moved an eighth of an inch in any direction it will not hurt anything as long as it is square with the movement of the carriage. Jim
