I've been to a few pet/feed stores today looking for mineral oil for a saw I can't find any. One store normally carries it but they were out. I'm in Surprise so if anyone knows where to get it on the west side I'd appreciate it.

Hey Andrea Walmart has mineral oil In pint bottles at a reasonable price. Plus I can usually find them at grocery stores and dollar grneral, family dollar cheap.

Tractor Supply, winter weight hydraulic oil. (mineral oil). Wally World's store brand baby oil.

I finally found some. Went to 5 different places and then just happened to pass a feed store and they had it. I needed 3 gallons so I'm not sure if I would have found enough pints or if it would have been economical.

We seem to be assuming everyone thinks all mineral oils are created equal. Are baby oil and mineral oil that makes horses poop suitable for harsh applications like a lapidary saw? It might be a generic warning label, but on the containers of stuff I use it says "minimize contact with skin", "avoid breathing vapors", and has a poison control phone #. Hardly stuff made for a babies butt.

I use horse oil and have for years. Never had a problem. Blades last way longer than they should the way I use them.

I use horse laxitive mineral oil a lot...
Farm and Ranch store,down the road a piece,sells it...
Also order it out of Cali.,when I think ahead..
Our Walmart sucks,they don't carry much! Always have to run to the city for supplies,at the bigger Walmarts..

Horses have very fussy systems. The oil is poured down their throats (the whole gallon). It has to be food grade so should be safe to handle. Anybody very sensitive to oil should wear gloves.

Hardly stuff made for a babies butt. Hydraulic oils should not be used, the anti wear additives are all toxic. Viscosity is important. should be only slightly thicker than water. CsT 40c or ISO-VG of 5 to 9 is best, up to 12 marginally acceptable if that's all you can get. If it is rated by ISO like motor oil or hydraulic oil it is way too thick, not good for blades and hard to clean off rocks. Diesel is fine if you want to watch your shop burn down and like buying saw blades  I am using the stellar lubricants cutting oil, got a 55 gallon drum. He sells at a lot of shows. It is made from the same base used for baby oil and cosmetics. Have you checked Rockazona? They should be close to you but they're only open Friday and Saturday. |

Our club gets the mineral oil at a local petroleum products dealer - $14 a gallon. We filter all our used oil and get about 60% recovery rate.
