I've been trying to use up some of my old rock rough so this batch came from many different types of rough. They may have gone through coarse grind separately but after that they were all combined and run through the finer grind stages and the AO polish as a single batch, and all in a 6 lb rotary tumbler. I stretched out the fine grind and pre-polish stages to about 10 days each, and left them for probably almost a month in AO polish. Then an 8 hour burnish in plastic pellets with some very old Ivory Snow laundry powder like the old rock tumbling guides recommend (found during a basement clean-up a few years ago).
Here's how it went...
Some poppy jasper I bought from Mel some years ago, that I think he dug from the old poppy jasper mines he relocated in southern California.
It tends to be highly fractured so doesn't really do well on close-up pics because that highlights the pits and fractures, but here's a couple close-ups anyways.
This next one I think is Wildhorse Picture Jasper(?). If not that exact stone, it's very similar and would likely have been mined from a nearby pit. I'm not sure, I bought a box of it on ebay maybe 10 years ago. Anyway, I really like it, and I think I might have more rough of this somewhere so maybe I should bust that up and do a pure batch.
Amethyst. I think this was mined from north of Lake Superior in western Ontario, but not entirely sure. I bought it at a local rock shop probably 20 years ago, when they used to offer good rough at reasonable prices (now their prices are so outrageous they should be ashamed of themselves, not that I have an opinion about that or anything (This reminded me that I used to store my old rocks in a different spot, so I just checked and indeed I just found enough of that old amethyst rough to run a pure batch sometime!)
Dryhead Agate. Again my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I think this was from rough I bought from The Rockshed, maybe 10 years ago.
Some kind of greyish breccia from Arizona I think:
And now 3 types of moss agates, which may or may not be related. I've called them A, B, and C, but they may be related. Or maybe not. I think they came from different sources, but again it's been a long time since I bought these so their origins are pretty fuzzy to me. Some may have been through trades on this site, I think variety C was a trade or purchase or gift from DesertDweller in Arizona (?) 5 or more years ago.
Moss Agate A: I think I maybe purchased this at a rock shop somewhere?
Moss Agate B: Ooh, I really like this one, I wish I knew where I got it!
Moss Agate C: Was this maybe a RTH trade? With Desertdweller(?) A gift from Desertdweller(?)
That's all folks, thanks for looking!
