rotary and/or vibratory tumblers ? I need to find or make a bench or table top style area with or without out cabinet storage for 2 or 3 machines and a few supplies like, containers of grit, ceramics, strainers, etc. ( 1 machine is a vibe. Similar in size to thumlers uv-18 ). I have started gathering just A LITTLE to much stuff.. Everything has just been getting farther and farther across my garage floor and it's impossible to clean anything around it, so I want to get the stuff up off the floor. The bench is mostly just to get the stuff in one area and up off floor level. So, I need some sort of bench that can hold a couple of machines, and possibly a shelf or something below to store some supplies like grits, ceramics, strainers, buckets, etc. I was also hoping to find a way to put a vibratory tumbler the size of a uv-18 somewhere on it, obviously secured somehow so it doesn't walk/vibrate its way off the bench, is this even a possibility to do safely? If so how did you attach/secure it? So if you have ANY ideas ,tips, or things you just may have learned while setting up your stuff it would be much appreciated by me and family who has lost our garage. ? And then I still need to rig up some kind a rinsing station also,,,,, Oh, and out of curiosity what do you store your grits and polishes in? thanks thanks thanks,, nich..

I can only propose a couple of approaches to your desired workspace. 1. I'd never put a vibrtory tumbler on a table. Mine don't move, but it would be a disaster if they did (if on top of a work bench). I do set them on a rubber mat that softens the noise and probably reduces movements. 2. I shop my local Habitat's Restore Store for work surfaces (my favorites are corian or similar synthetic materials that are smooth, waterproof, and great for drying, gluing, or evaluating my lapidary activities. Lower are other marble like products, and finally super cheap formica tops. They are not as weather resistant but so cheap I can replace them every other year when they disintegrate from rain and condensation. These slabs can convert any table into a better work surface. 3. Rinsing occurs in a typical plastic laundry deep sink (*mine is a double) bought at a yard sale for $10. It is unplumbed but I keep a 5 gallon bucket under the drain which is emptied on my thirsty plants when it is full. I carry water to the sink from my nearby house hose bib, but 4-5 gallons is sufficient for the average tumbler clean out or rinse. I could plumb it for summertime use, but it doesn't seem necessary. Any solid base will make up that workbench, but the prefabricated ones from Home Depot could be customized to allow you to hide that arbor motor undernearth and protect it from dust, water, and ?. I have a deep shelf where everything grit like is stored for easy retrieval. Marked of course and in similarly sized and shaped containers. Have fun setting up the shop. Tom

Thanks for the suggestions, I really hate not asking around for ideas and then talking to more experienced people LATER and having them say things like, 'oh yeah , I could have told you that,' ,,,, then I really want to kick myself. So I am asking first this time..... I was pretty nervous about putting the vibe on any raised surface, IF it did somehow fall the cost of replacing a barrel alone is pretty spendy,, I figured it would have to be put on the floor right beside it, or underneath the bench area depending on what I figured out.. Thanks again,

I bought a simple workbench with shelf, drawer, and light canopy from Canadian Tire. They are all made in China and almost every major chain store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) paints them a different colour and puts their name on them.
The lower shelf holds three tumblers. (AR-2, Model-B, UV-10). The upper workbench holds my Gryphon grinder, Ameritool flat-lap and Dremel drill press. The upper workbench is illuminated by the canopy light. The canopy itself is a shelf for more storage. The peg-board back and hooks hold all kinds of accessories. The drawer holds lap disks.
I'll follow up with a photo as this description may not drive home how handy this little unit is for small scale hobby use.
