Decided to post a couple of pictures of our first tumbles. These were completed before we joined this board, and I guess these are examples of not tumbling long enough, not polishing long enough and somehow we missed the part about washing the completed rocks to remove the polish before it dries. Oh well, at least we have all summer to re-tumble some of these. All of these were collected from the beach or nearby washes at Havasu Lake CA. Still new to this, so we're not sure what everything is.

It seems to me you did ok. I always add a drop or two if Dawn to assist in the rinse.
Your pics are underexposed, so the stones seem dark. Do you know how to fix this? What type of camera?

Those don't look like a complete failure. In fact, they look pretty good. Taking pictures to show the shine takes some practice. An iPad doesn't have a great camera, so it's going to be tough to get a good picture. I use a small point and click type camera, but I've done ok with it. A cheap tripod helps a lot. I also set the camera's time to two seconds so I can let go of it while it's taking the picture. I take my pictures inside with a light tent and whatever lights I could find around the house. I think the best pictures are taken outside in the shade though. Try setting up in the shade of the garage with the door open.
Enough about pictures. Your rocks look really nice. I'm not very good at identification, but they sure have some character. I tumble a lot of rocks I find locally here in Michigan. There's something very satisfying about tumbling rocks that you find yourself. I really enjoy getting outside to find them too.
What type of tumbler are you using?

I have two of those. A 33b and a QT66. They're great tumblers. I finish all of mine in a Lot-O.

Your batch looks good, you put some shine on 'em and I like the variety of self collected material. It's pretty comforting to know that you would have to try pretty hard to ruin a rock in the tumbler. Do-overs are part of my process right now and error is definitely popping up just as much as trial. Learning is half the fun though, so we'll keep at it, right?

Great looking rocks! Good eye for picking up the nice ones. I like the process of collecting the rocks, and seeing the potential for a good polish. Keep it up!

I am still trying to perfect my photographing skills also. I have been using an iPhone 6s or iPadPro with limited success. Light box does not seem to do rocks any favors but , outside, I get way better photos.....even handheld iPhone. I only hope to get 1/2 as good as the best on here to consider myself successful. Welcome again and look forward to many more pics. Jeff A

Nice batch! The bright glare or light in the background of pic 2 made it think the scene was brighter than it was. When I crank up the brightness on my tablet the detail really pops out just fine.

Very nice first batch. You were talking about that you didn't do this or that, you did good. If you never make a mistake ... Then you may not ever learn.

Nicely shaped tumbles. That takes time. Bet it won't take long to get a fine polish. Welcome to the forum. Havasu a special place. The bridge intrigueing lol.
