Howdy carvers! I am considering purchasing an implement for engraving stone and have been eyeballing the Fordom SR Motor with flex shaft...the specs are 1/6hp ball bearing 18,000rpm. SR motor has a switch for forward or reverse direction (maximum speed is 18,000rpm.). I will be doing a lot of work and wanted to pose this question to the group: Which engraving tool will take the most, longest use - Foredom or Thanks in advance for your input Miya

mianderForedom flex shaft units are top notch pieces of equipment. You can use them for a lot more than carving too.

Foredoms are the best. Dremel will die much sooner.

When I sold Foredom it was not uncommon to have a customer at a show wanting to buy a new cable or sheath for his 20 year old Foredom. Much more torque and quality than Dremmel. Dremmel a good low cost starter to see if you really like it or not but not made to last a long time. High speed low torque limits it too.

I burned out a Dremmel in under 3 months trying to use one for gem carving. I use a Foredom TX300. It's more powerful than the SR motor, and I've never missed having the "reverse" feature. I've had mine for 8 years now and have only recently had to order a new replacement part for the foot pedal. Also, Foredom customer service is A+ in my book...
