How long did it take you to get so good at this? I just tried it. My husband is still laughing, the jerk! rockrose, that coral almost explodes off the mother stone. It is very friendly to work with. I am spoiled. Pet woods and jaspers and other agates not so friendly to chip like that. The coral is par excellence for making spearheads due to it's mechanical properties. Video of husband laughing please, maybe you could intro a water balloon properly placed. The little 4 ounce hammer makes it much easier though. Hard to do that with a 12-16 ounce hammer. Why 4oz better than 12?

@shotgunner - Speed kills. Hard to get a heavier hammer up to velocity. Long handled 4 ounce hammer is better than short handled one. Point of impact important too. Lite weight hammer easy to hit sweet spot. Still get tendonitis swinging the 4 ounce.
Remember using the 270. Blows that coral into cool tumbles. 150 grains @ 3000+ft/sec. Gotta do some more of that.

LOL! Yes, I need to get a rock hammer. I have all my jewelry hammers and had to fight the husband off of those. Men use hammers, ladies use patience and brains.

Why did no one ever tell me that when I was a welder's helper and then an ironworker for Brown & Root in the 70's? Or when I took that construction course in college when I was working on my Interior Design degree? The professor told me I made the highest grade in the class and he hated giving it to me because I am a woman, so he gave me a B instead of an A.

If you find a local rock club they may have a workshop and some tools that u can polish full stones with. Have you considered selling some? I would not mind some, specially purple! I swill be back at my CT home soon and we love the hunt for good stuff, Id be glad to send you some. pay the shipping and its yours. the light Purple is hard to find, but I'm sure I can find some cool pieces. The guy at the mineral museum in town said I could even get something called Iron out if i wanted to remove the iron ore from some big pieces. I wont sell it to ya, Ill send it to ya, for the good free advice. My kids will think I am a pro!

Well Harbor Freight wont take it back or exchange it. So I will have to take it apart myself. My kids are bummed, but if I fix it Im sure they will be thrilled even more!

Harbor Freight is garbage; you get what you pay for. You need a good motor for the thing to run 24/7. It's really easy to build your own if you're handy. Hope you get your slag polished!
