Hi there! Your forum is super informative. I was wondering if the processing lengths would be different for slag from a stream. I have tons and tons from CT. It's from the old iron furnaces from many moons ago. Thank you so much

Glasses are soft so they will tumble faster. There are other considerations too. Research obsidian tumbling.
What color you got there?

broseph82 Jimi is a slag head. He finds tumbles fine slag. Might consider a Lot-O vibe to get a nice polish on it. Glass a challenge to tumble to a polish.

Break them down to smaller pieces to tumble (trust anyone who says this on this board especially the smash-master jamesp). The pieces with all the popped air bubbles on top won't look as good tumble. Tumble the more solid pieces first. The green and purple look the best and blue (depending on the turquoise or the deep blue-purple) will come out looking okay.

If you find a local rock club they may have a workshop and some tools that u can polish full stones with.
Have you considered selling some? I would not mind some, specially purple!

I will have to look for a rock club ! My kids would kill me if I sold their precious collection. But I have an untapped unlimited source I for sure can dig some more from the steam next time I am in my CT house ! I can look for purple for ya !

This small hammer method works well for making tumbles out of glass, obsidian, slag, glassy agates.

My husband is still laughing, the jerk! rockrose, that coral almost explodes off the mother stone. It is very friendly to work with. I am spoiled. Pet woods and jaspers and other agates not so friendly to chip like that. The coral is par excellence for making spearheads due to it's mechanical properties. Video of husband laughing please, maybe you could intro a water balloon properly placed. The little 4 ounce hammer makes it much easier though. Hard to do that with a 12-16 ounce hammer.
