My daughter is fostering a puppy. She works for a non profit, no kill rehabilitation shelter. This 5 week old pit puppy was abandoned along with it's litter. She just sent this picture. So cute!!!!

People and organizations from all over the country send them dogs. Some can not be saved and have to be put down. They were treated so badly that they just can't be around people anymore. But, the group tries like hell to train and socialize every dog that comes in. It only costs 20.00 to adopt a dog, but they are super strict about who adopts. They are successful in placing a lot of dogs, though.

Instead of spoiled nieces and nephews. (got no kids) Here's a link to them. www.foreverhomerehabcenter.comThey were just in the news. A big story in the world of shelters... They have a policy that if you ever have to get rid of a dog, it has to go back to them. The new owners have to sign off on it. Well, a lady got a dog, a good dog, but one who hates cats. She was walking it on a leash, when it spotted a cat and took off. It killed the cat. Animal control was called and they pressured the woman into surrendering the dog. Legally, she wasn't allowed to do it. But, she did because she was bullied, threatened and probably freaked out. Animal control put the dog down in 24 hours-- against their own policy!!! So, a huge stink was made with a huge protest and people coming down from NY which is where the dog was from. www.13newsnow.com/news/local/mycity/norfolk/outrage-breaks-out-after-norfolk-animal-shelter-euthanizes-dog/199035217My daughter works at the Norfolk branch and her boyfriend works at the Va Bch branch.

BTW- When I said a no kill shelter, I meant that they will not put a dog down which CAN be placed in a home. There really are some that can't be. They have one now that my daughter won't go near. She says he's bat sh*t crazy. You can see it in his eyes. He's broken beyond repair. So sad. It's bad people that make some of these dogs what they are.

I'm with James. If I outlive the wife, everything will be left to the local animal shelter, except for my rocks & equipment which go to my best rockin buddy.

Kudos to your daughter for fostering. I got a real good feeling reading your posts about this. Sure wish more folks would foster or adopt, it breaks my heart to see them in a cage, scared out of their little minds. I'm sure for the dogs, it's awful hard to be on your best behavior when your afraid and been abused. Blessings on the shelter, sounds like an amazing organization.

All puppies have a special talent sometimes it's hard to find and it might take a long time. But... That puppy is able to make money, it even sleeps with a dollar bill for a blanket. Lol So that puppy is dreaming about, what's next.

She says he's bat sh*t crazy. You can see it in his eyes. He's broken beyond repair. So sad. It's bad people that make some of these dogs what they are. Now here is the problem Tela. About all dogs are tractable if raised right. Problem is their owners. NO puppy leaves this house with a personal detailed history and contractual agreements protecting the pup. The Michael Vick's of this world, well, vigilante justice come to mind. Special place in hell for dog fighting clan. In the old days dog fighting was limited to short jousts and owners were expected to retrieve their dogs out of a hold. dogs well cared for and healthy. Minimal scaring. Only the most submissive dogs would allow being handled in such circumstances. Any dog that showed human aggression was banned for life. Not condoning, but it was a short joust as opposed to modern day tactics. Pit bulls for instance were one of the least human aggressive dogs on earth for that reason. Bred to be dog aggressive and very much not human aggressive. These days they let them fight to the death. A long gruelling cruel death. Cowards the whole lot of them. There was a man in Coweta county GA that put a pit bulls to sleep and cut their gums back to make their teeth longer. He got time in the big house, yea ! Problem is owners, not the dog. Rarely a dog is totally intractable and if it is it is probably best put down. Guessing those that want to delve into controversiality can challenge such. Let them step up to the plate and live with a human aggressive dog. If you let your dog kill a cat then you should have leashed and fenced the dog, he has a natural desire to kill cats. They are dogs, what did you expect.

I won't tolerate a cat killer or human aggression. The neighbors rotties cornered a cat in their yard and were tearing it up. Enter garage rocker with aluminum bat. Cat survived, dogs with sore ribs. Don't care if it was in their yard, not gonna watch that.

Dog sees cat, does a beeline, 3-4 feet away she jerks rope and dog darn near does a back flip. In that dog's mind that cat KO'ed him. Works about every time.

I'm sure that method is more effective than the 30 oz. Easton to the chops. They didn't learn anything except that they don't care for baseball, and that I can hit to all fields.
I went in thinking it was my boys' cat. I saw flashes of an orange tabby pinned to the ground. Turned out to be another neighbor's cat. Hard to tell with 9 Rottweilers on it.
ETA: No harm came to the dogs, they are built like tanks. Only two of them actively tried to keep me from taking the cat away, the rest scattered. The cat, though seriously beat up, was well enough to light into me when I tried to scoop it up. Still have a scar on my hand from that little ingrate. One of the crazier things I've done (as an adult).

Aggressive dogs command a lot of effort on their owners part. A whole lot. Many bad attitudes out there about 'my bad ass dog'. Irritating bunch. I had a Bull Terrier that was a real tiger. He was a playful dog and had a long fuse/dog friendly. Walking him on a lead in the park when a bunch had a G Dane off leash and it jumped Rex. G. Dane running and squealing with crazy Rex hanging from his neck. What to do ? They were charging me with fault. Yea yea, law says leash ass hole. Why was he loose ? I just stay away from aggressive breeds. Relax and enjoy friendly dogs. Shot and killed neighbors dog, he climbed a hog wire fenced pen and had killed 7 of my 9 goats. Good riddance, called them to come get their dog. Should have pressed charges. It still upset me much, mad as hell at neighbors. Not dog.

Had a customer whose dog jumped on me. Twice. Both times a knee to the chest knocked him flat on his ass. He only jumped on his owner after that. #stupidhumantricks

Wife taught me that trick too. Very effective. And a milder form for training dogs that climb you. They got to learn.
Yea, some dogs can't be broken. Especially for cat aggression. It's ingrained.
