Hi,
When removing the Picture Jasper, which was 3/4 buried in the ground, one of the pieces broke in half. Is this common? It had been outside for about 20 years. The soil is mostly clay it was in, so little drainage. I did not mind, as it is a more manageable size now. This piece was about 10" square. Just concerned about when I finally cut/tumble it. Thank you.

Just looked at them closer. Two of them broke in half, but revealed beautiful patterns inside one of them. Outside now for a good rain soaking. Will post photos eventually.
So, they might be OK for slabbing/tumbling?

Tumbling? What could go wrong?
Slabbing? Better ask in the saws and slabbing section.

Thanks everyone for your input. By the time I can work with my finds I will remember just how to do it. Lost part of that memory due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning in 2010.
