Tommy did a couple of great trip reports and of course the pics were awesome but I did take some pictures so thought I'd share them too. Downtown McDermitt (high noon) The casino and cafe The view from the loop road Snow on the hills Wildflowers near the Larsonite site (Gary Green) A few more flowers At the thundereggs (I believe that is the lovely Eva talking to a guy from the Idaho group) Thunderegg in the hole (I dug this one out and a scorpion came out of the hole - it was too fast to get a pic) One of the creek crossings on the way to dig thundereggs Russ nowyo digging for agate The wildlife (Saw three bull snakes on the road the last day I was there, this was the biggest) and last but definitely not least; Rocks Larsonite (aka Gary Green) Purple Cow Agate Chicken track and picture stone Thundereggs A little piece of saginite I found in the "picked over" area. Was able to get one cut off the end of the saginite but the rest will have to wait. Looks like there may be more goodies waiting inside this one. Thanks for looking. It was a fun trip and I wish I'd gotten more pictures but I was too focused on getting rocks I suppose.

Nice report! You sure got a lot of rocks. Wonder how Purple Cow got its name. Pretty stuff. I've heard about McDermitt, but hadn't seen the town. Thanks for taking us along

Yep,McDermitt is a happening place although I think most times nothing is happening...lol.
Pat, I was told Purple Cow got it's name from the way the nodules looked in the original area where it was dug - they supposedly looked like cow udders but I don't know if that is the real story or not.
Tommy, it was fun hanging out with you all too. Thanks for the "secret" to digging purple cow (wink wink) - and no I'm not gonna tell the secret.
Bill, you know you wouldn't be able to catch me....lol.
Thanks Mike and Jean.

Great pics, Dianne. Well, there is that one of "Fat Old Fart Digging Holes", but the rest were really cool. I've got to agree with Tommy-it was fun hanging with everyone there-great bunch of folks. Cool to see that "little" chunk of sagenite cut. Anyone who gets a chance to go on one of these trips really needs to do it, I'd leave in the morning to do it over again. Russ

OH, you mean the secret about walking around and picking up as much of the LARGE float as you can carry so that your truck is full in 10 minutes and you leave and never come back? Dang, the cat is out of the bag now...

BTW, I don't see no sagenite in your sagenite ... I think you'd better send that to me for a proper cutting

It's hard to get a good close up with my camera but there is a hint of it near one of the red colored areas. I would send it to you Tommy but it won't fit in a sfrb.

Whats inside those eggs?? Supposed to be agate in them but some are duds. I have only broken open a couple and they were solid duds but I have one half of one that shows blue agate inside.

I was just kidding about sending it. I'm just still being jealous because I've searched that rock pile at least four times and never found a hint of any remaining sagenite. Tony said he'd been up there a bunch of times too and never found a scrap. I really hope it blossoms like crazy further inside that bad boy

Yeah solid duds is a great description. I've cut open a dozen or so of the larger ones and they all look the same - filled with clear agate which is good but no moss or other inclusions which would be awesome. I've had one small golf ball sized one that made me say whoopie but the cabs didn't turn out very good. The yellow orange plumes were very soft and undercut like crazy with zero shine.

Great report! I love the shot of the "town". Really puts a new spin on "remote". You sure had a great haul. I hope some of t-eggs turn up something for you.

Yes, it is remote. It looks more like a ghost town because a lot of businesses are closed. I forgot to post the pictures of the sagenite I collected in that area. I was told there wasn't anymore because the area was picked over. Lucky for me I didn't listen and went to look anyway. I found quite a bit although most isn't very good quality. The biggest one I found: end cut off (that's as far as I've got it cut) the smaller pieces This piece shows nice colors and patterns The half thunderegg I found AS Porky Pig would say....that's all folks.
