Hi Guys, I wonder if I can use "food oil" like olive oil etc to cool the saw blade?
I have an old Rock Rascal T6 Combi.

You can but it will stink like rancid oil after a short time. Mineral oils are much more stable and clean up easier.

Veggie oils have large molecules and it makes them poor cutting oils.

The small saws without hoods are meant for water. The oil would go everywhere and you would be breathing in the mist (Extremely unhealthy). I you get a larger saw with a hood then you would step up to the mineral oils.

There are additives you can put in the water to extend blade life and prevent rust, but definitely don't use oil in a 6 inch saw. Use a mask anyway, the oil mist is a bother but the rock dust in oil or water mist is far worse.

Hi Guys, Thanx for the info. I would not get me a bigger saw, as i'm mostly into the silversmith thing in jewelry. I buy most of the stones I use as small slabs (rough's), so I just need to trim them.
As for additives for the water, can it be used alone (without the water)?

Nope, this stuff is like a thick oil/syrup. If I remember correctly from the old days, it was adding about a tablespoon or two to a gallon of water. Never had any problems with rust with my old rock rascal, but I always drained after using it, and always gave the blade a wipe down with 3-in-1 oil after drying it off.

If you use oil use food grade mineral oil. Fill to just cover bottom cutting rim of blade. You should have a steady drip at blade guard. Overfilling causes excess to spray everywhere. You should be OK with plain water as long as you drain after use and dry the blade. Don't overfill with water either.
