If you look in the members section, you'll learn that I work as a consultant for IBM. I develop education solutions for a variety of corporate customers. I also do some speaking engagements. Recently, I've been talking about how to build communities in organization to increase learning.
Today, I presented the topic to a group of local business people in the field of training. I began by showing a picture of a rock tumber. One person guessed correctly what it was (no, it's not an alternator!)
Then I took the audience to this message board to demonstrate how learning occurred so readily based on the passion and commitment of members. Questions asked and answered all the time in this group. So many of you put so much into building the skills of your fellow members.
And I also showed them how we have build significant relationships through the community board...we know each other by name and areas of expertise...we share about our families and personal situation. Sandman, you were a feature! And today we have the opportunity to even support one of our friends who's wife is so ill.
What an amazing group! I told them that out of all the communities I have been a part of (there have been a good number), this one is by far the best example.
And to close off the session? I gave away a bunch of rocks - people could take what they wanted from my bucket. Most interesting...I had more questions about the rocks and the hobby after than about the rest of my presentation!
Thank you all for your commitment to the hobby as well as your friendship.
Jeff
