Howdy folks, Got these off the saw the other day before the dang power feed overheated again. Hot here in Texas right now! These are off a hunk of Rio Grande palm fiber? the kiddoes brought in from Carrizo Springs. Very tiny vascular bundles and extremely fine grained and hard material. I'm not dead certain it's palm but I think that's what it is. A booger to get my old blade through it even after fresh sharpening. For some reason palm always seems to be extremely hard to saw. Anyway, I love the color and this is probably some of the nicest palm I've ever cut. Gonna turn it around today and take a slab or two off perpendicular to the fiber too. Here's a pic. ...Mel

Very pretty material! There was a small amount of similar looking in with an old collection I once bought but I never knew what it was. Larry C.

Sweet stuff, Mel!!
And it's only the first day of summer. It's supposed to be 106 here in Spring Valley (a few miles east of San Diego) and we can see the ocean. No breeze though. The good news is, only 100 miles from here, its 120 in Palm Springs. Bet it's close to that in SW Texas???

I was looking at them Commiefornia temps this morning. Man it is really cooking there! I did an extended desert biology field class in Palm Springs one summer. Still remember sitting in a cardboard shack in Taquitz Canyon monitoring desert iguanas and it was about 130 in the shack. It flat gets hot there. Actually, only 86 here today on the Edwards Plateau. We seldom get above the nineties and almost always have a nice breeze. The downside though is the humidity. Unlike " it's a dry heat though" we often get the "wet" heat. I hiked this morning, my normal three miles through the horse pasture, and I'm on my third change of clothes *L*. I wash numerous loads of undershorts, and shorts every week. Course, I ride horses three days a week too and that gets some clothes sweaty and dirty too....Mel
