So, putting this out there, knowing that some may think I am totally nuts. Does anyone else work with "Healers" who use rocks for their therapy?
Got an emergency call yesterday from a friend who does healing with rocks. She ordered a custom piece that I have to finish today. It is for one of her customers. She was very specific, down to the type of wire needed for the largest wire wrapped Amethyst and the pattern of the wrap. She selected a crystal for me to remove from my large Amethyst. Also went through my 100+ pieces of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and selected 2 of them. This is a full necklace of Amethyst and Turquoise. Said her customer needed it for intuition, acceptance and energy projection.
Everything is being made specific to what she selected and instructed me to do.
Know everything has to be perfect. If she is happy with the results, it will be a $125.00 piece, which she will sell for $150.00. If not, I will lose a customer and probably friend.
So, how much do you accommodate customers requests for custom work?
Will post photos of the completed project later today.

I do quite a bit of custom work. Always get money up front and give yourself a reasonable time frame to get the work accomplished. For me, 1-2 weeks is standard and sometimes more depending on how many orders I have lined up. I can't emphasis enough the importance of getting money up front...never touch a rock or wire for a custom job without at least having your costs covered...
It sounds like your customer is very particular about what she needs and is looking for. For these kind of things, sit down with the customer, sketch out the design with lots of notes and both of you sign off on it. That way if you finish the piece and the customer comes back saying that it wasn't what they wanted you can go back to the design that you both signed off on and have something to protect yourself with. Also, She needs to give you the time you need to complete the work to your satisfaction and not rush you, I doubt she wants to start over looking for another person with a stash of amethyst and turquoise in her area to find the ones with the right "properties". It's jewelry, not a medical emergency...if it's an emergency, a hospital should be involved, not rocks and crystals.
Good luck with the project, I hope you get paid for it.

Project finished. Was very unhappy with it. The time constraints made it difficult for me. Plus the requirements by customer. Prior to making necklace I had to do a cleansing ceremony with citrine for all items used. Also had to do another energy gathering ceremony. After the necklace was complete, had another ceremony to do. I was concerned about the cracked Sleeping Beauty, but that was the one she wanted. Fortified that. Seems stable now. Well, customer loved it and gave me $150.00 plus orders for 4 more healing necklaces to complete within a month. Guess it proves that the customer is always right, even when one thinks they are wrong. More details on this regarding items used. The polished and drilled Amethyst was my work. The Turquoise was purchased. Do not have a clue how I did the Amethyst, tumbling, shaping and drilling. That is what brain damage can do to a person, erase all memories of specific things. Sorry for the rough photos, but I am using an early 2000’s Nikon Sure Shot. Thanks Don for your insights. I only do custom work without up front payment for friends. We did the design work with all the rocks and metal, except the Amethyst crystal, in front of us. She also required two of the smaller Amethyst pieces be together someplace towards the bottom of necklace. Left exact placement up to me. Am very happy she liked it and now ordered the additional items with a reasonable time frame. Went above and beyond and it paid off.

Glad it worked out for you. I'd still recommend at least 50% down for the next 4 orders. What happens if you get them done and she changes her mind and refuses to buy them later?
