I had bought a bunch of edging rocks for my yard from a local landscaping company, and when I bought them, they were all dusty and I couldn't really tell some of the beautiful detail in them. The other morning after a rain, I noticed a few that I need to cut up, but I could use some help identifying what they are. I think that's blue jasper, but I honestly don't know. It's really pretty, whatever it is. This one is REALLY pretty, and the greyish-blue stone is pearlescent, but I don't know what it is. It is almost looks like silver (the metal) is in the rock. It goes through the whole rock, as I cut off a chunk to tumble. That one is really cool as well, I thought some of those lines were like chisel marks, but they aren't. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Is there a "good" way to separate it from its parent rock without destroying it, or does separating it from its parent rock kinda destroy it in and of itself?

It's usually pretty hard to separate an embedded agate from it''s matrix. They are usually under quite a bot of internal tension and tend to fracture easily if you whack on it. Best to saw it and then trim out the agate sections or polish it as a flat. If there was less matrix, you could tumble it off too....Mel

Thanks, Mel! I kinda figured that, but didn't know, and didn't want to destroy that rock learning the hard way. I'll put it aside for now.
