I'm new to rock tumblers, and I have recently got an EduScience quiet rock tumbler. It has three different barrels with foam in between them that go inside of each other which really helps keep the sound down. I turned it on one day after I closely followed all the instructions before I left to go out of town. When I got back, the little wheel was spinning just fine, but the barrel wasn't in sync with it. The barrel would just sort of start then stop, kind of touching the wheel every few seconds or so, making it stutter. Anyone have any advice on things I can do to fix it?

Perhaps all the weight of the media and rough rocks caused the shaft to fail to lift and turn the tumbler barrel? That's usually the problem. Or you used too much water? A combination of these issues can also cause the problem.
Edit: A lack of friction between barrel and shaft can cause the barrel to remain idle whilst the shaft spins.

Hmm
When I first started out I picked up a National Geographic tumbler at a car boot sale for next to nothing... which was about what it was worth. The first round was fine; on the second, there was a minor weep, which made its way into the electrics and ... kaput!
