Bugs bite worse the second time around. Deciding on either a Lortone 3A or a 33B and an extra 1 1/2# barrel. Thoughts, suggestions, etc. welcomed.

Thanks wades. Nice machine. Just a lot more capacity than I need/want.

33B is a great tumbler for low capacity. The QT series is not just higher capacity it is also more efficient. The design of the barrel and the extra action created by the longer rock fall make it grind faster then the 3A and 3B size barrels. The six pound and 12 pound barrels have a larger diameter plus 12 sides that create extra action Chuck

Thanks Chuck. My old beacon Star 3# barrel has the flats in it. Sure am going to be sorry when it wears out.

I have three 33B machines with two 3 pound barrels each and they are great for small loads. I certainly wouldn't recommend the smaller 1.5 pound barrels. By the time you allow for media and air gap you can only really run about 3/4 pound of rock. That's a really low yield. With the 33B 3 pound barrels I can run about 1.5 to 2 pounds of rock (depending on starting size) and that's really about as low as I would want to process in a load.
I also have one QT6 and two QT66 machines. Those are my preference now for most work.

Appreciate the thoughts there Enigman. I'm thinking the small barrel to do cabs, 8 or a dozen at a time. I can preform and shape 'em lickety split. Just never seem to have the time to finish them out.
Got 4 slabs and half a dozen cabs that started in polish yesterday. I'll get a better read in another week.
