Are you using the high speed for rocks? If so, how does it work? I would think first stage very fast and maybe too aggressive for subsequent steps.

Replacement barrels are cheaper here: www.therockshed.com/tumbler2.htmlunless you have another discount. Are the high speed models as durable as the rock tumbling models?

I've been using mine over a year. They seem to be more durable than the Lortone. The QT12 I've had for about 9 months and it makes odd noises that it didn't make when I first started using it. The Model B sounds the same. I've read reviews stating that the rubber lid liner wears out quickly, but mine hasn't.
I am using it for rocks. But I only use it for harder stuff. I don't use it for glass or quartz, which tends to pit.
I like it, and it grinds down noticeably faster than the QT12.

I meant the high speed Thumlers versus the rock tumbling version (I'm assuming the Model B "high speed" is different than a "standard" model B?) - I have the Model B, I like it, but am wondering if the high speed version does a better/faster job or if it might wear out sooner?

I don't have the standard Model B to compare. I think the two machines are the same except the high speed motor is just set at a faster RPM. I imagine the high speed grinds quicker. I put a heaping cup of 30 grit and in two days it's pretty well worn down. In the Lortone QT12 it takes 3 days to get to the same point. I imagine the rubber liner will wear out sooner. How long does the "standard" one last?

Haven't had to replace it yet, no obvious signs of wear but it hasn't been used since we moved (still in the mess of stuff in the shed)

I have 4 Model B tumblers (low speed motors) and have yet to wear out a liner. The lid gaskets on the other hand usually only last around 4 months. You going through lid gaskets faster than that Colin?
ETA: A replacement liner is around 45 bucks I think. Wonder if the time savings on coarse tumbling stage would off set the cost of maybe needing a new liner every few years. High speed may not even make a difference on the liner, I don't know.

You going through lid gaskets faster than that Colin? I"ve had the tumbler for over a year and haven't needed to replace the lid gasket. I suppose I should buy one to have on hand when it does wear out. I have a spare belt that I haven't needed either.

I have a Model B Hi-Speed . It was billed as a Brass tumbler For ammunition cases. All parts are Identical as the regular speed except for the Hi speed motor. I found it a great machine for That with S. S. Pins .

I am no longer a Thumler's dealer but the only difference is the motor. The drum and liner had a 5 year warranty when I sold them. No warranty on lid gaskets for rock use. I could call them and after whining a little get them to replace lid gaskets that wore out first load.
