Hello All, Hi Bob, Thanks for the warning! Yeah, we've been watching our usually little river all day. It's definitely raging! Llana made it to where she was working today......no low water crossings between her and there! I didn't get to go to work, nor did my daughter and her husband (along with many others).
The crossings above town (one between where Llana lives and where I live) are still under serious water, but the main crossing below town is now open. Not that it does us any good, cuz we still can't get to either of the towns that we usually have access to. So we're just kinda stuck here..... but we're safe!
Thanks for thinking of us, Bob. Are you and yours O.K.? Y'all have had plenty of rain, too, haven't you?

I'm about 2 stones throwes from Salado Creek near Military Drive and IH37. The creeks high but not bothering me. My patio is flooded but it never has gotten in the house and recedes pretty quickly once it stops raining, which it has. Had to do a few detours on the way home from work due to flooded intersections but all is well. I did make it to the store to buy some beer so I'm set for the evening. Bob

Glad you're OK, Bob. My son and I just went and checked the crossings again and ran into some friends who were out doing the same thing. Found out that 2 vehicles washed off this morning just below town. One was a guy from Kerrville, and one was a friend of ours from here. Both gentlemen were rescued safely, one vehicle has been dragged out of the river, our friend's truck is still lost. But he's OK. This river of ours can sure get on a rampage, sometimes when least expected. We only had about 3 inches of rain in town last night, but up river had from 9 to 13 inches overnight.

Yowee! You guys be carefull. I still think Texas is gonna break off and slide into the gulf if the rains don't stop. I'm not familiar with Medina, what part of the state is that?

Cookie, You mean to tell me that you don't know where the "Apple Capitol of Texas" is? And you used to live in this fine state? How about the "Cowboy Capitol"? Do you know where that is? Won't surprise me a bit if you don't know where either of those are! Bandera is 'officially' the Cowboy Capitol of the World because there have been 8 national champion rodeo cowboys from there (pop. about 9,000). Bandera is 47 miles west of San Antonio. Medina (pop. about 1,000, if we exaggerate) is 13 miles WNW of Bandera. If that doesn't help, we're 25 miles south of Kerrville.
However, all that considered, right now we're in the middle of no where cuz we can't go 'no where'. Just too much water!
And Bob, glad you were able to get you some beer on your round about way home. Medina is dry, so NO beer here. I usually love living in Medina........but sometimes it really SUCKS!

......and guinea pigs, Cookie! My son has 2 of those in his room.
We're being careful, Kim. Llana ran out of smokes, so I got some for her at our one and only little store before it closed, but she is not chancing the crossing between us tonight. <Sure am glad that I'm not the one of us out of cigarettes! I'd probably KILL something!>

Just kidding, you guys, we're fine! And we should be able to move around the countryside by in the morning.....I hope! BE

Hey BE, that rain down there has been terrible. I complained that it was so dry here in Michigan back in April, so it started raining in May and didn't quit till June. Things are finally drying out here. I have a membership in a campground in Bandera that I got from my parents. They used to full time several years ago. They spent part of their time in a campground somewhere around Medina as well. The campground at Bandera is just now finally getting back in shape after being wiped out in a flood a couple of years ago. Be careful, but when the flood waters recede you should have a brand new batch of rocks to look through along the river.

Jeesh! I thought we got flooding here! You guys need to go start collecting two of every animal. Someone else start building a REALLY big boat. Best of luck. I hope the waters recede quickly.

Hey Trout, everythings almost back to normal here. In this part of Texas the water recedes almost as quickly as it rises. Yesterdays flooded lawn will need mowing today.

Well, I got totally freaked out a while ago about this flood!
Yesterday AM about 7:30 Max and I walked down to the river. I wanted to see how much it was up - alot! But not near as much as it was gonna be!
We walked down there a minute ago to check it out and a good 20 to 25 feet from the river bank, the grass was laid down and there was a chair and all sorts of other debis that had been deposited.
I don't know when that wall of water came through, but it freaked me out to think that Max and I could have been in it's path! Scary! Taught me a lesson though - next time, I will NOT walk all the way down to the river bank. I will stay up on the hill and check it out!

That's good to hear. Sometimes we get flooding here and the rivers will jump their banks. It's interesting to see steelhead and salmon fighting their way across the water covering the roadways or someone's front yard. (interesting AND tempting to someone like me - wouldn't be too hard to just grab one of those nice fat ones for the grill)

Trouthunter, funny you should mention that about the fish. The last time I talked to my daughter yesterday evening, she told me that my grandkids were down by the river rescuing frogs, minnows, perch, bass, and whatever else had been stranded in puddles and potholes as the river went back down. The river has gone down quite a bit but is still roaring and muddy, and has left alot of debris and road damage behind. I couldn't get to the ranch that I was supposed to work at this morning, but fortynately these folks own 2 ranches, so I just went and worked at the other one today. Then this afternoon, I had to go rescue the owner who had gotten stuck at the ranch I couldn't get to this morning. Floods always make for interesting days! BE

I look at that and imagine the amount of time I've spent up to my waist in the rivers in the freezing rain in February searching endlessly for just one steelhead - battling the current, slippery rocks and hypothermia. I swear there isn't a fish within ten miles of the river. Then there's a flood and it turns out that the rivers were chock full of fish.
I guess now that I think of it, I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world.
