We just returned from a Europe/Russia trip. We saw a lot of neat stuff. The opulence of what we saw in St. Petersburg, Russia blew me away. Here are two photos showing an example of just how rich the Russian emperors were. Our guide told us that if we took 1 minute to look at each exhibit, didn't take time to eat or sleep, it would take us 7 years to view everything in the Hermitage Museum. These two photos were taken in the Hermitage Museum. We took a tour of Catherine's Palace and the Hermitage Museum in one day. We could have used a whole month. Some really nice malachite: And some really nice lapis: Thanks for looking.

A friend has been to the replica of the amber room, says it's amazing. The amber room in Catherine's Palace is truly amazing. For some reason, the amber room is the only room in the whole place where they wouldn't let me take pictures. There is at least one good photo of it on Wikipedia though. With all the people in the room at the same time I was in there, I couldn't have gotten a photo that did it justice anyway.

I just can't imagine how it would be to find those stones large enough to make such beautiful items out of! Thanks for sharing with us.
