I went on the multi-club field trip put together by the Pasedina and North Orange County rock clubs. It was a beautiful day and you couldn't have asked for more gracious and knowlegable folks to rockhound with. Everyone went home with as much actinolite as they wanted to carry. We found small boulders at both sites as well as a number of smaller pieces, blue and green schist and dolomite. Blue Cut. It is called the Blue Cut because of the blue schist. Here is the San Andreas fault where the Pacific Plate and North American Plate meet. Here is a sag pond where water seeps up from the ground. Surprisingly there are freshwater clams in the pond. You don't think of clams in a pond in a mountain. The first collecting area was pretty flat with a couple of arroyos. There were quite a few yuccas that were very friendly and reached out to touch us. Here are some pieces of actinolite in the ground which is blue from the blue schist. Here are a couple of small pieces of actinolite I found. Here is a boulder we found in an arroyo This is a piece from the boulder. This is the second area we went to. Here is the prize. This boulder weighs about 100 lbs before we split it.

Hi Paul! That is really interesting! Never saw the clams spot before, got gps coords? I have hunted actinolite and have stuff to prove success. But none of the spots I found looked like those! Wish I would a gone. What did the dolomite look like? barclay

Fraid I don't have GPS cords. The sag pond has some pit toilets and a small parking lot there and I am sure that is on some map. The dolomite is plain white marble. It has some crystal faces to it, but it is pretty boring stuff.

Very good job. How did u stabilize it? I used Starbond extra thin to soak into the stone to bind the inside better and Starbond medium thin on top to give a more even polishable surface.
