You guys would laugh at the bug/critter removal method.

It entails overfilling the pool onto ground for a day or two till the water starts to creep up to top of slab level.
Flooding the entire yard.
bugs snakes mice termites ants make a run for it. Return is difficult since ground cover is mowed.

The cabin floats on deep sand on 9 inch steel poles. slab level 6 inches above sand level.
Flooding effective.

quartz, there are 6-8-10-12 inch wells in the hood there. Flows are 600-1000-1600-2500 gallons per minute respectively.
Static pressure 12 psi @ 6 feet above lake level.
Mine is only 4 inch @100 gpm, laws changed to 4 inch as maximum unless agricultural which I am and can still get a permit for such.
Wade fish in the lake a lot. By wading you can find the cold spots(under sand springs). Lake has massive springs too, millions of gallons per day.
One of the springs is high salt water(Salt Springs @ 30 million gallons per day), that section of the lake full of ocean critters tarpon, red fish flounder etc

rockymom, have had a whole bunch of nieces and nephews over. I place bets that they can not jump in fast enough to splash out 12 inches of water depth.
what a fiasco. The place is bulletproof and the flying water can not hurt anything.

Been in about every wetland in the SE US. This area is about as primitive and jurassic as it gets.
Even have bull sharks and porpoise visit coming up the St John's from out let at Jacksonville 125 miles away.
Mankind is several notches down the food chain here.
Turtle, catfish, alligator, blue crabs all commercially fished in this lake.
Have seen 150+ pound snapping turtles. 13'+ alligators. Soft shells very large.
In one hour I watched from the front porch an owl catch a squirrel, a weird wasp catch a katydid, anole catch a grasshopper, cardinal snatch several dragonflies, and a kite dive bomb a song bird.
About 3 times a year you are kept awake at night by what sounds like 100's of B-52 bombers-attack of the blind mosquitos. Buzzing loudly in clouds, a mass visit lasting a week.
something is always eating something.
Birds are migratory, oceanic, fresh water, birds of prey, tropicals. Probably the most diverse collection of birds imaginable.
An owl had set up a nest in the attic with babies. she was after me if I walked to one side of the building.

Pileated wood pecker spirit. They make a wild jungle sound, worth youtube listening.
Can peck a hole thru plate steel(not really) but great wood destroyers.

Cypress tree was out in the lake. He was fussing at me from shore. Finally he flew out to the cypress tree to his hole.
He did not like me next to his home.

These turds seem to like the elms and my skylights. Dropped a section off the neighbors elm that was at least 24 inchs in diameter and guessing 20 feet or so off the trunk, and across my driveway.

I hear, could be wrong, we have the largest pop of elms here. Problem now the trees seem to have dutch elm disease and many of them had to be cut down due to rotting. makes it easier for the pecker to bring them down.

That's s pretty clever multi-purpose tub. What a wonderful getaway!
