Yep, painting fishing lures is fun. Lots of tricks used for getting different patterns. A onion net is used to simulate scales, paint over the net and now you have scales. Clear coat is difficult. What type of paint do you use? Createx was what I use. Its OK but I have not experimented a whole lot. I bought a big assortment so I just want to use up what I have before I get more. I mostly do the soft plastics now. When my father gets his cherished lures that I made for him caught in trees or underwater stumps, I pump a few new ones out for him haha. Yes onion netting works great, I actually use wedding dress veil material because my lady has a roll of it!

The clear coat I use Zap epoxy from a hobby store and when I brush it on. A hair dryer helps it to flow over the lure. Low settings because of air bubbles.
