Spent 20 minutes along 20% neighbors driveway. Some amazing finds. Best part is that her Great Niece was visiting. Brought her a fossil coral and lava bomb. Explained their history, how old they were. Also said there were a lot more like that along driveway and encouraged them to remove some of the leaves covering the rocks. They will be exploring tomorrow. Niece is very excited that these things are along her Aunts driveway. Sorry for the blurry photo. Was using my phone camera, which is not good. But, if there are no photos it did not happen, right. Total finds were about 60 lbs of fossil corals, lava bombs, agates, and cherts. Some of the cherts have purple in them, which I have never seen before. Also found a horn coral. My second of those. Yes, I will have to trade neighbor some granite and other rocks to refill part of the shoulder of her blacktop driveway, but I think it is worth it. There were at least 30 lbs of corals alone. Hope to post better photos after I get batteries for my camera. Best find was an eight pound fossil coral. Cannot weight until I have equipment again.

Hi,
Can do the lava bomb thread once I get camera batteries.
Have been unable to find a different photo hosting site that does not crash my computer. Will keep trying.

A) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcanic_bombYeah, googled it. Never once saw an image that looked anything like any of the "lava bombs" found in Fernwoods farm field.

These are locals that were Identified by a local UW Geology professor/rock expert. Agree, they look different that some you see on the internet.

Some pretty stuff there. There used to be several rockhounds living in my neighborhood that have passed, and the new property owners all seem to just disregard the collections that line their fencelines and driveways. I'll see a neighbor put in a new fence and just bury pet wood, jaspers agates etc. as fill. Or walk along sidewalk at the bottom of a little slope and find nice specimens that have washed out and rolled into the gutter. Makes me want to start wandering around with a wheelbarrow and knocking on doors, but I've got my own tonnage of forgotten rocks to deal with at home already. Always nice to see some goodies getting rescued.

Found out I started something with Niece. she found 4 great corals. Was really too hot and humid for her to be outside much, but she cannot wait until her next visit to find more. Let her know I could try to ID any of her finds. I too feel bad when great specimens are buried.
