leads to photo of mystery rock on instaI must have had this for over 20 years but I thought it was a quartz nodule. It fluoresces purple under black light. The others in the picture that fluoresce green are prehnite but I don't know what this one is? Ideas?

i assume it's long wave UV, it's an old-time drugstore black light from the mid 90s i don't know why people can't see the link, it shows for me, maybe it's an ad blocker thing or something it's the current photo at instagram.com/peachfront

Is the rock white? Most white items are purple under UV. I gave myson a short wave light years ago. He wanted to try it out first rock tri but I told him nothing in that area would light up. A few steps up the trail he found some glowing purple items. picked ne up and turned on his flash light. He was holding a very old dog poop.

My white socks are purple under this light also, as are white T-shirts. So I'm not gonna pretend I don't know what you're talking about. Sure, lots of white things DO light up. But not other white stones. I have tested so many. Although this particular is white and waxy... but that's why I know it is not a Quartz or Opalite etc. because none of them light up blue / purple ...

The white tee shirts and socks glowing under black light is actually a result of the brightener they put in laundry detergent. Makes whites look whiter in sunlight, but the phosphors fluoresce under UV light. Don't know about the dog poop though.

To double check the housekeeping practices and get free upgrades.

My first thought after seeing this was calcite. In have some that shows purple/blue under my 1970's black light. They also glow some under my fish tank and seedlings grow light.
