I heard a rumor that this place is now inaccessible. Anyone who knows, know whether this is so?

No info from me. I've not been up that way for forty years. Used to be a whopping long hard drive even then. BLM Elko, Nevada still lists the site on their rockhound site map though. You might send them a note and ask about access...Mel

I think I would rather wait for an expert rockhound see this than to spend one second dealing with the BLM.
Dealing with the BLM is kind of like dating a woman with herpes. You will probably still be OK, but who wants to take the chance?

BLM folks are like anyone else. You've got your aholes and your nice folks. I've never had bad experiences with any I've dealt with. The one in Mariposa was a nice guy and helped me with some maps to find rock sites. Also had some good experiences on the east side of the Sierras. Even pointed me to legal places to hunt arrowheads.
I have heard bad things about the ones on the Mojave Desert but in all my years never encountered a single one in the field. Just lucky I guess, as I spent many years collecting out there a lot.
Scott, have you had a problem with cops? I used to work out in a gym full of them and have ridden horses with some too. Shoot with some every week. Nicest fellers you've ever seen, unless you are breaking the law or have an attitude problem of course...Mel

Mel, I think he was just poking at me because I am a LEO.
I have heard plenty of stories about BLM guys in MT,ID,AZ, and CA. I see them all of the time in AZ but stay away from them because I don't want issues. With my luck I will run into OFC Richard Foreskin.

Some handicap sit's have electricity even tho the campground is primitive! Who knew?? Helped me get to see wild horses in Montana by coming to my campsite every morning to tell me where they just saw them! BLM good guys!!# Strawberry Az speed trap robot bad guy!!!

The most current field guide I had described the site as looking like gophers on steroids had been there, pretty accurate. Did find a bit of pink agate limb casts and quite a bit of opalized limb cast, but nowhere near what I found there 14 years prior. It was about 110 degrees, wait till the fall

I am back from my trip. Lots of snow in the higher elevations and blocked out because of it. I did go to TX Springs and found a couple pounds at small pink but when I went to Rich's hill it blizzarded and the ground was covered. Neat place now that I found a perfect road leading to it after taking the "scenic" route in.
