Hello - Jean (rockpickerforever) invited me to this site in December 2015. This group sounded very good so I joined immediately. As life would have it, life happened. I am happy to be getting more involved now. I'm from San Diego and love rock hounding on the beach for rocks and fossils. Most friends and my husband do not understand the "Zen World" of rock hunting and collecting. But guess who that doesn't stop ;-) I want to learn more about rock identification and how come it looks the way it does. I have one rock that I could not identify nor could another yahoo rock group. I finally met a geologist that told me why its hard to id. The color is unusual as its a patchwork of greens & blues with tight boundaries of each color. It appears to have been stretched as layers slide across each other so its patchwork of color is more in elongated patterns. Bingo - I got it then. Unless it's a stand out, I just can't identify it. Could be this, could be that. Similar to this, but ...not really. I've been collecting and polishing rocks for about 10 years and there is no slowing down in sight. I look forward to learning from this group. Pam

Hi Pam! Glad you could make it!
I think you will really like this forum, the friendly people and the information that is openly shared here. Oh, and the photos, everyone here loves sharing/seeing photos.
It is a little slow here right now, summers typically are, what with kids out of school and vacations. But it is being more than made up for with all the political BS, especially about the upcoming presidential election in a few short months. Boy, will I be glad when that is over! Many here speak (type?) their minds, don't let it bother you too much. Just take it with a grain of salt..
Welcome to the crazy house! Jean

Having the beach and the desert at hand, you have much to offer us. Just get out there and get to picking up those rocks to photograph, post, and tumble. You will find no shortage of opinions here, although sometimes you have to take them with a grain of silica, because ids from photos leave something to be desired in terms of accuracy. Welcome from New Mexico (but a former resident of San Diego). Tom

I am one of the people who say what they think. But fear not. I consider Jean and her immensely happy better half to be friends, so you must be OK by default.
