Hi all, It's been a long time since I've been active here. I'm hoping to change that. I am looking at a used 8" Highland Park Trim Saw. It supposedly "works great". I cannot tell from the picture the model, age nor place of manufacture, but it looks old to me. Any advice, tips, warnings? What do I look for if I decide to check it out? Assuming it does work great and I find no other issues, do you think it's worth $150? Daniel

Its a good saw but only you can decide whether its worth $150 or not (its your money and kids who will go without shoes or ??). I have the 10" version of that saw and the fence helping you cut uniform thickness slabs is useful. Having a vice is also a plus. With the deep top, it will contain the splash better than some saws. So . . . offer $100 and see what the response is.

Your info about the fence, the vice, the deep table and your experience with the 10" version is all extremely helpful and exactly the kind of information I seek. Thank you very much. I'm stepping up from a tile saw. I know what I can afford - more than $150. What I cannot afford however, is to spend too much for this particular saw. I should have asked if $150 is in the ballpark, or is this guy asking way too much. I think I know enough to check the play in the armature, but if anyone can tell me what else to look for, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks again Peruano!

I don't recall if the 8" unit came with a belt guard like the 10" has. If there is supposed to be one and it is missing that might give you a bargaining chip on the price. I would think it's worth the asking price, but it never hurts to dicker.

I did see that. I also noticed there is no splash guard/shield at the end of the table either. Bargaining chips indeed.

My 6" saw is similar with the cast aluminum base and the bronze sleeve bearing mounted on the base, but no slab guide or vice. It has been reliable for us for many years. The price is right if there's no problems other than the obvious ones, but if you can get it for less that's ok too.
