Hi, Recently, after a couple years of toying with Chicago tumblers and not getting it quite right, I got a Thumler Model B and a bunch of 60/90 grit. So far, everything works great and the rocks come out smooth and have run some through 2 or 3 times with 60/90. I'm interested in learning to identify rocks, learning the best ones to tumble which are best to tumble together, and sharing and looking at others' results from their tumbles. The pictures below are rocks harvested today from Geneva Township Park on Lake Erie, between 41.862275, -80.936814 and 41.862479, -80.935431. The following is about half the haul from today, about 1/4 overall from this location, and doesn't include the fossils or weird ones. I'm pretending there are rows A-F and columns 1-8. Notes/questions... Not sure if it’s visible in this pic, but it looks like there is metallic copper or pyrite in this rock. I think A4, D3, and F7 are basalt. Rock C2 is a rusty red color, but is completely smooth. Rhyolitic basalt? No interruptions like the regular green basalt from this location. Does anyone know what rock B7 is? It was the only one I saw that looked like that. F4 was very light compared to other rocks its size and had large crystals. And A8 was from a couple of years ago, and has been through 7 + 2 days of 60/90. Very smooth and yet to enter 120/220. There are more pics to take soon. Thanks
