Well that's one heck of a score!! Can't beat the price either. Keep us posted on the clean up and how it runs for ya. You already have a 16" and now a 20" - sweet. What are you cutting? Are you a seller at the local rock shows? I went to the show at the Strawberry Festival hall earlier this year (I think it was this year) were you there? Are you one of the folks on Craigslist locally? Interesting link above jerrys . Those guys take the refurbishing to the limit! Prices seem kinds high though.

Be sure to rewire that puppy. Those old ones weren't grounded.

Captbob, I was at the show, but as a customer or just walking around, traded some coral for Turquoise and all was good. I don't do Craigslist , selling nor searching, I am just a 30 yr digger/diver of coral , artifacts and fossils and kinda do my thing alone, out back in my shop . Jakesrocks, that is one of the first things I am doing beside the cleanout. the insulation around the power cord is all dry rotted and cracked, the old guy hasn't ran this since the early 1990`s. He has given me cabbing machines, kilns , tools, rough all kinds of stuff. I think he enjoys seeing his equipment being used again by someone who will appreciate them

Nice set up and nice score! Nothing like bartering! Liking the plexi hood too... My saw that I just received needs a hood, this might be the ticket...

The original lids in those saws are lucite. If it's in any way repairable it will be far superior to modern acrylics that are engineered to degrade under uv light. If it's anything like my similar vintage HP14" saws you may be better with 18" blades, in mine the blade is so close to the bottom of the tub that it doesn't run enough oil, gets hot, and has to be cleaned out too often. I switched one to 12" and like it a lot better.

Likely it is an 18" saw with 20" blade. I think all their saws were two size models (12-44, 14-16, 16-18, etc. with larger size the blade is very close to back wall and bottom. 1" taller cut but 1" less horizontal.

I have the same model saw (newer though). The hood it came with large cracks in several places (it was actually in a couple of pieces). I bought some fiberglass resin and matting and patched the cracks with two layers of matting and resin. Worked great! Its been about 4 years now and the patches are still holding strong. I love that the whole hood is "clear". Makes it real easy to see what is going on in there. If you use fiberglass resin, just make sure you wear gloves, work fast, and work in a really well ventilated area!
