Hi everyone, A gentleman recently asked me to slab several pieces of rough for him and make a few cabs if the material stayed together (which it did). The stuff looked great but I have never seen it and could not tell him anything about it. He said he had a claim and that he was calling the material Santa Esmeralda Jasper. Has anyone seen any of this material before or know what it might be? Thanks Harold

The square one looks like some of the copper ore I get here in Nevada. It is a copper ore with a iron stained quartz matrix as part of it.

@ napoleonrags, Thanks for the welcome. Have been a lurker for years trying to learn. This forum is and has been my go to resource for all things lapidary. So thanks again.
The guy calls the material a jasper but I figured some kind of Chrysocolla mixed in with other copper and maybe silver related minerals. I am wondering if it is the kind of material one might find when getting close to Gem Silica?

Looks common to me. I see stuff like that frequently in my buckets after my AZ trips.

Here is the copper ore stone I am referring to. This came from Southern Nevada and is a quartz matrix with iron staining. 20160901_162142 by James Sloane, on Flickr
