Hi Everybody, This is maybe an odd request... I purchased 3 gorgeous verdite and buddstone elephant carvings on my recent trip to South Africa. Several of the elephants need new tusks, as they were lost before I could purchase them. The ones I need are pretty small... maybe 1 to 2" long, about 1/4" thick. The tusks that I do have remaining are carved out of bone (not ivory, don't worry!), and I'd like to commission somebody to make new tusks for me. Does anybody know where I could look or who I could talk to who might be willing to do that? Here are the elephants, in case you are curious. Thanks! Jeff

I might be able to hook you up with real ivory. Legal too.
Do you want me to try to find him? It is walrus from natives in AK.

Those are gorgeous carvings. Did you get elephant hair bracelets as well?

The elephant tusks I got in Kenya years ago were carved from cow leg bone, so i was told.

For art's sake you may not want to follow this suggestion, . . . but, I'd talk to my dentist. They have lots of wonderful materials now to allow them to mold and create teeth. You might be able to take a mold off of one of the tusks that you have and go from there. I know I have modeled exact replicas of delicate snakes teeth successfully (not for viewing but for detailed study of anatomy). Producing that curvature is the tough part - most bones might pose a challenge. Forming them from something synthetic would be the way to do it if that doesnot detract from your art's appeal.
