I'm looking for a few high quality Texas Springs limb casts, buy or trade. They need to be as good or better than the one pictured and must have clean pink chalcedony showing that's at least an inch wide in all directions. If you have some extras let me know.

A while ago I had heard that the location was shut down and made a post asking if anyone knew about this. Not one answer. I have a small amount and want more. If I can collect it myself.

When I collected there years ago good material was abundant. I had a couple of hundred pounds of choice casts but I went through a divorce. They wouldn't fit into my unpaid-for VW bug with all the rest of my worldly possessions (nor did as much as a ton of other fine materials I'd collected.) I have no idea what happened to it.
Anyhow when I posted I had no idea the stuff is as scarce as it seems to be. I hear it's selling by the ounce in finer qualities, at prices that are too high for what I had in mind to do with it. I knew the guy who was publicity director at one of the big Jackpot casinos for years and he did a lot to popularize the location to attract tourism to the area. So like many other great old locations it's apparently getting depleted. I can't tell you whether it's open for collecting or not.

Texas springs is still open for collecting. The bog area is still very productive. The true pink is hit or miss for collecting. avoid the old areas and dig halfway up the hill or higher.

Thanks Rockpox! Have you been there lately? Just wondering how the road compares to 4 to 5 years ago when I was last there. Thanks again. jeff

The road in was great earlier this summer. Going up the hill past the spring is always 4wd only but wasn't bad. It's not too bad to hike in from the camping spot up the hill only about 1 mile to the good stuff. Take a big pick to break up the ash layer a rockhammer is too small to be productive.

I had a big piece that was almost purple, very cool. Sadly, I have gone through it.

Ed or Tela what does it cab like. As IN How Much Color Will It Retain At What thickness. I hounded a bunch of beautiful rose quartz in Ga. It was great until slabbed and cabbed, then it was almost clear. But if I made real high dome, think half of a sphere it was gorgeous but pretty heavy too. I am going thru Texas maybe I find some. Is there other pink limb cast?

orrum material is from Nevada...location Texas Springs. Cabs like any other agate. Good stuff is pink thru and thru, but the lighter stuff fades like typical. Many color variations from this location - all are cool, but pinky pink is the prize. Anyone who has dug it knows the value, have to move ALOT of earth these days. Cheers
