I try not to pick up oddball stuff like that but sometimes curiosity wins and I have to see whats inside. That one has been sitting around in a box for years.

Yeah, it's always a pain cutting turritella parallel to the top and bottom for the good shell patterns but you really nailed it. Good high contrast black example too. Very nice cuts!.....Mel

The outside all had a crust on it so I never really knew what it would be like inside. Chuck

Chuck I think orrum sent me some chipboard rhyolite. Could it have come from him? That is possible. I need to keep better notes. Did you do anything with yours? These slabs are perfectly smooth like a fine jasper and seem really hard. Chuck

I was going to tumble mine, but I have so much rough that I don't know when that will happen. I'm not sure if I have pieces large enough to slab or not.

Hey guys the chipboard is variable from one stone to another. There is a slight color variation that tells you the hardness when houmding. It's variable about how much chipboard is in a rock, it could be mostly cortex or crust. I tried to chip it with a rock pick to tell the insides. I brought a 150 pound one back to the club. It sawed out huge slabs! I sent yall some Birdseye Ryolite too, it was from Stone Cabin Az. THe chipboard is from Ca out in the boonies sorta toward Wiley Wells but not actually thrre.

Hey I don't remember that one on your thread. Stuff does good too! Great cab and wrap Chuck! It does not take a real high shine but it looks perfect in copper with a patina. I think it would fail as a tumble. Chuck
