October 2016 Fun Cab Challenge
This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation whatever the outcome.
Theme:
Rules: All hand made cabbing techniques may be used. Cabs entered must be at least partially hand shaped or carved and be completed by the last minute of the month in your timezone. They can be started before the month but only finished during the month. You must have 1 preform / slab / or pre design photo of the rock. You can enter up to 3 individual finished piece (not combined) photos and 1 of the 3 photos will be used for voting to see what cab folks like the most (please note the photo you want used). You can change your photos or improve your cab and place new photos in your original post replacing old photos by the deadline.
Finished jewelry cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified by the theme). It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the cab without a jump ring, as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.)
All entries submitted to this contest must be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). Any duplicates will not be included in the voting list.
Feel free to share with us the story behind your workings or material.
Also, don't forget to include the name of the material.
If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first.
Prize : Donated by Tommy, (may need help with shipping cost)
winner allowed to chose theme for the month following voting.

I'm afraid carving leaves me out. But, I look forward to the seeing the entries and thank you for including me in your list AND THANK YOU for doing this. It's an underappreciated job.

I think that he means carving is permitted, but not required. I think making a cab on a Genie is still OK. glennz01 am I correct? Also if I recall multiple materials like intarsia and doublets/triplets were not allowed in the past, are they OK now?

I'll be in, now to find something pretty out in the shed. Then the right shape. Then to actually do it. Then to be happy with it. oh so much hard work, maybe I'll sleep on it.

You are correct rockjunquie In fact "carving" on a genie with standard wheels is done quite a bit like making worry stone cabs. I am being more open for cab types. At the end of the day a great cab will win over a good insertisia or carved cab. I'm pretty sure that most people will still be making cabs on a geanie or something, I may make a heart on mine this month along with other stuff (whether I enter it or not ive yet to determine)

How many entries can we get? TommySadly I will have to sit this one out. Surgery on my ankle is scheduled for Monday and I'm being told minimum of 6 weeks minimum before putting any weight on it. I am currently exploring "rolling" options that might get me back in the shop earlier than that but options are limited. If you don't already have a prize sponsor - I will send a Small flat rate box of slab and slabbettes. If the winner is not from domestic US I may need help with actual shipping cost - to be discussed later.

You also have the weekend to do them, that is when I make mine at least although coming soon I should have more days off. To have you as a prize sponsor will be great!

Never saw an answer to this question. Are assembled stones like doublets OK by the rules?

Never saw an answer to this question. Are assembled stones like doublets OK by the rules? [/quote] It is accepted, please just note what style is used in the cab if it is not a single stone.

OK, so I was thinking of putting my bug in here But as luck would have it, I got into searching for some eyes for another project, and uncovered some unexpected colours. Now, the bugger is how to choose just one. My choice for this contest. Next single it down to just one picture for the voting At 0.3ct, certainly the smallest cab I ever did. With all those colours, I slowly begin to understand as to why people are so crazy about opal. Thanks for looking, Kurt
