Worth the wait. You have some amazing looking rocks in that batch and did very well with them. Sodalite can be a pain and even that looks really nice. Good to hear you got your teenager to help too. My kid that got me starting in all of this lost interest as soon as the teen years hit.
You mentioned 3 pound barrels in your post. Were these all done in 3 pound rotaries? If so color me impressed.

Very nice like the pic of them in the bowl. Can't wait another 8 years for your next batch!

Chuck Hello Chuck, good eye. Initially yes, they were all tumbled with care and sorted by softness. BUT... I did invest in a Lot-o last month and re-ran just about everything back through it. I've gone back through years of the pics posted here, you and Jamesp have been my guides to rock tumbling. Outside of the usual best practices, my early lessons were cull the junk early, it won't get better. Leave them in the first stage until you've gotten them to whatever level satisfies your perfectionism. And finally (your tip), increase the ratio or ceramics with the soft stuff. I ran those two chunks of sodalite by themselves with nothing but ceramic filler from 120 on up.

Fantastic! I saw another "First Tumble" thread posted by a name I didn't recognize and figured - here we go again. What a treat to see such beauties! Thanks for sharing your work and story. Your Stone Canyon and crazy lace are top notch! Your unknowns in pics 2, 3 and 4 may be Rainbow Ledge. Hope you keep at it and keep posting such eye candy! Welcome back "New Member" from 2008!

Haha, well my initial attempts certainly looked like all of the other first tumble posts. However, after reading back through all of the posts from all of you coaching everyone through the common problems over the years, I refined my techniques lol. I believe you're right about that Rainbow Ledge. I googled it, and I've got a couple chunks of rough in my tub that match it pretty closely. Thanks! And thank you all for the kind words. This certainly is a wonderful calming hobby. Nothing like cleaning out your tubs of rocks after a stressful day. Very zen like.

What captbob said, many times over! Exactly what I was thinking, those are all some mighty fine tumbles.
Ya know what they say - better late than never. I am STILL working on producing my first batch. I have been called a slacker by a certain person on here, lol. Sad fact, it's true!
Glad that your life challenges are now leaving you alone to pursue this addiction, and also that it still holds your daughter's interest!
Welcome back, and keep those photos of shiny tumbles coming. Always great to see them, thanks for sharing! Jean
ETA (edit to add) - Forgot to mention, that since you were last here, RTH has instituted a policy of giving a "drool warning" before posting pics of eye candy like that. We all were spending too much money replacing drool damaged keyboards, lol.

Can't really tell from the pictures how good the batch is, will need to examine them in person. I'll PM you my address & will even pay the shipping..... Seriously, beautiful tumbles. Some of the coolest rocks I've seen. Well done.

Holy cow, that's the longest I've heard of a first batch taking to finish up, but what a batch it is. Awesome materials and an awesome polish.
