That’s some fine eating james Especially the sautéed onion & peppers That’s how the taco trucks serve them in Phoenix Ever since NAFTA was passed The only good NAFTA ever did Thanks to some Mexican burócratas A little cilantro goes a long ways And radishes and cucumbers are standard fair Although I prefer my tacos with hard masa taco bender crunch It so nice to hear I been eating Mexican food wrong for 60 years. No cheese.. ha ha But I have been told that Sonoran style is gringoized That’s fine ! I’ll keep ordering my green chili burro’s red enchilada style w/ melted cheddar & onions one thing that not gringoized in the classic sonoran syle is the enchilada sauce and I tell the proprietor of don Jose That our breadbasket friends don’t like Mexican food with cheese. He’ll say fine. We have enough out town customers as it is. Ha ha I’ll never forget inside cover of tres Hombres That was the seventies. Mexican & Tex-Mex was the craze

We must agree to disagree.... The cheddar thing was a commercial for the dairy farmers or something. But surely you can climb down off your mexican high horse long enough to let me enjoy a little cotija with my otherwise 'authentic' taco? I promise, no cheez whiz. Cotija it is. A very dry salty cheese to balance the tart spicy taco stuffings. Perfect! Haha! Cheddar? Meh.

East coaster....... I am sure you have delightful stuff in St Pete we don't have here. For instance stone crab claws. Have to go to Florida during the right time of year to get those, Here, one of life's true joys is an actual glass contour bottle of coke bottled in Mexico from real cane sugar. None of that high fructose corn syrup crap. For me, flavor is same, but mouth feel is more rounded and enjoyable. And the actual glass bottle is nice.

Nuthin goes with a taco better than Mexican Coke. Course I don't drink anything with alcohol cause I'm allergic. Like rockpicker says, totally different taste from the messed up American Coke recipe. Costs a bit more but well worth it. My favorite Mexican joint here is Los Altos de Jalisco. Lot of regional differences but that one is closest to my favorite place back in Commiefornia where I ate Mexican almost every lunch *S*. They even have a good chicken chimichanga sp? which is really hard to find in Texas. Buddy of mine back in Commiefornia used to not be able to remember chimichanga so he always asked for a chicken chittychittybangbang. Cracked the cooks up but he still got what he wanted. Los altos has the best carnitas and pico de gallo in this part of Texas too.....Mel

The beef about the cheese comes up regularly in this household. I figured some one was going to bring the subject up. Cheese is the standard in Mexican restaurants around here. If the sign says Taqueria there will be little cheese served.
No Coke served at Lucy's Taqueria. Only Jarritos.
And of course, Corona. The beer, Chuck, Scott.
Impressed with the authenic Mex food connoisseurs participating. Tacos similar from east to west US.

Hardly high brow, with no room for embellishment...according to taste.

Thank you Jean for the MexiCoke info. Not really sure I want to drink anything from Mexico though. Can you get it in the US out west?
Scott - stone crab season opens Oct 15. I like to wait until the water cools down some before I start eating the claws, like from Dec until season closes March 15.

Not closed minded.

Mexican food..... yuck. Don't like it, don't eat it. I love avocados, so DH made some guacamole the other day. I almost spit it out and would have, but I didn't want to be rude. He ruined perfectly good avocados with that nasty, nasty cilantro. Gross! Cilantro leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. He made fajitas, too. I picked out the meat. Don't mean to down your thread James. Just sharing- not all us Gringos dig the Taco Bell. Don't even get me started on tacos and how they fall apart all over the place. OK, but I do love dos equis beer.

Gonna burst a blood vessel if I don't take a nerve pill. Funny trend happening in Atlanta Tela. Minority foods high on list at finest restaurants. My part time worker is a professional chef. Candler raised straight out of a very poor zip code. He has risen to one of the finest chefs because of his as he says 'white trash' recipes that his mama cooked for him. The theory is that the less fortunate take great strides to cook the finest tasting food. Soul, cajun, low country, Central American, Mexican, backwoods Southern, ethnic are the hottest dishes being served in metro Atlanta. He said I can show up at the back door of the finest with field grown collards, turtles, goats, hand picked wild mushrooms, gator tail, Jamaican callaloo, fresh bamboo shoots, etc and expect top dollar. Back door(black) market place dodging the government food control Nazi's becoming big biz. Immoral majority looking for these outlaw dishes. Candler having a blast and getting paid too much to work for me much any more. Other than a needed day away from the city. Candler made it to about the trendiest gunshowatl.com

As I mentioned to Tela, those low cost ethnic dishes are rising to the top of the list in high end urban restaurants. All they have to do is walk in to any Mom and Pop's Mexican joint and ask for the real thing and get it for $6. Taco Bell, I almost came over the table. That girl knows how to hit a nerve.
