I remember reading a detailed post here about tumbling obsidian, and I think the lady was using a Lot-O.
However, I need a method that will use either a 40 lb Lortone rotary or a 12 lb Lortone rotary. Or both. I was talking to a gentleman who said the trick he used was to pack the barrels to the top with material. He said with obsidian you cannot allow the stones to bang around as with other material. Make sense? I will dig through my files again to see if I can locate a recipe for using rotaries, but in the meantime if anyone knows of one that works I would appreciate you sharing it.

I did some - rotary only - and posted a thread which you can find in my recent threads as it was recently bumped. Could have cut down on the time it took, but didn't care enough to speed things along. Time and full, well cushioned loads (after the rough grit stage) seemed to do the trick. got the link - forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/70637/mahogany-obsidianagain, probably could have knocked a couple months off the run had I cared to.
