I just got my new workbench put together. Solid 8ft long 1.75" thick bamboo top and 3" steel legs. Unbelievably heavy and does not budge. Made to hold 3,000 pounds. Only one problem, I cant stand the thought of scratching it. I am working on getting a second one already. adjustable height legs and leveling pads too Thanks for looking Chuck

A local company was giving those engineering desks away since the company was shutting down. A carving friend got one and loves it. Uses it all the time. Looks great with a few scratches and marks. Yours will, too!!

That's really nice. Will it fit down your stairs? Needs to be taken apart to move. I am still trying to figure out how I am going to arrange things. I have been doing my silver work in the garage all summer but need to move it inside soon so that might be what the bench gets used for. Chuck

Chuck I would share your concern about breaking it in. She's a beauty. That first scratch and ouch. But that is what it is made for. Might as well put it to work. Steal the Ms.' table clothe ?? PS How much does it weigh ?

Chuck silver smithing needs extremely aggressive ventilation if you do it inside.

Chuck Actually, a bit of googling finds these planks of bamboo in three configurations and two sizes. Sold as counter tops. Retail price is nearly the cost of your entire workbench, at least the couple sources I saw.

I guessed heavier. They used balsa under the bamboo ?? Coup de gras, one bad boy table. waiting for first scratch.
My vibe and polishes are kept 60 feet away and fairly clean and organized. However, the rotary tumblers are in an area that looks like the inside of a cement factory.
Some types of work are better done in an abused enviro.
You may have mentioned above; what are you going to do on this/these tables ? Rock stuff ?
