Those always kid of remind me of Mexican Casas Grandes agate...Mel Thanks, Mel! I can't take any credit for finding any of the FJP's, they all came from AzRockGeek. He gave me a shoe box of Marfa's and a couple gallons of the FJP's. Things got mixed together reorganizing the 1,000 plus pounds he gave me, so I'm not 100% sure they are all FJP's. The crust and texture was similar, so I grouped them together. I just looked up the Casa Grandes and they are very similar! Jeremy

Marfa's famous for their unusual plumes. Got you a treasure. Watch out for people trying to trick you out of them.

For my money the Marfa Bouquet Agate and the Woodard/Walker Ranch Red Plume are both A-list material. I had the good fortune of collecting at both areas several times 15 to 25 years ago and managed to find a decent amount. It does seem that both agates only cut out nicely about 1 out of 4 or 5. It's always worth the wait. Interesting enough both areas are only about 10 miles apart as the crow flies, about 60-70 as the road goes.
In late May of 1975, my brother and I went to Marfa and the old Bishop Ranch to look for Agate. There had been some heavy Spring rains and the lady at the ranch was concerned that my 65 Ford Custom would not make it through some of the low washes. She sent us to and area that according to her they never sent anyone and if we found nothing we could have our collecting fee back. It was a bonanza and we loaded up as much as I dared put in the Ford. We began planning on going back in the Fall, unfortunately we saw an article in the paper that the Ranch had been sold. End of that Agate area.so it goes.

Great material, both the moss and especially the plume are really impressive.

Color me jealous Mr. Jeremey. Nice looking material. Hey Mr. Billy!!! Long time no talk. If you get any jobs down that way, it would be a great opportunity for you. I'm sure you could make some killer jewelry with them!!!
