Minersville has Picasso Marble & some Chrysocolla (& some crystals which I've never been interested in collecting). I'm not sure what agate & jasper can be found near there. Agate can be found between Parowan & Cedar City. Jasper is found west of Cedar City closer to Enterprise. Lynn

Yes! I've collected Picasso Marble a few times. I collect agate all the time when the weather is good. It's my therapy. The Jasp/agate location near Enterprise is my favorite place to collect. Lynn

Go up to the Granite Peak area. Lots of amethyst and quartz crystals. We stopped by real quick coming home from Topaz Mtn. Google it and you'll find more info. The road is the Rock Corral Recreation Site off the 21

The guy that had the picasso claim worked at a big cheese factory in the town right on I15 east of Minersville (Beaver?) when we were there. If you can find him he can direct you to the claim.

The site was recently reclaimed by the BLM. It will take a lot of digging and luck to find very much material there now.

A buddy recently brought home a couple hundred pounds.... Like 2 months ago.

DonThe friend I speak of is highly reliable and even more energetic. He probably prospected in all directions to find suitable material. Said it looks like some he bought 20 years ago. But hasn't seen since. More brown and brick coloured... I haven't seen it yet.

Picasso marble runs throughout the entire mountain range, so it's very possible to find it if you're willing to hike and do some prospecting. The easy access old mine that is the classic collecting location for this material is what has been reclaimed. The material isn't extinct by any means, it's just harder to rockhound for now as old digs are buried, new claims are denied and existing claims are being forced into closure.

Perhaps the new 'great america' administration won't be so hostile to small time claims. Its weird though. Oregon and Nevada claims new and old abound. Cali and Utah? Not so much. Thanks for the knowledge.

Rumor has it that the area will become an open pit silver mine.

Yes. the black is silver sulfide. Mining law makes them fill every hole. THEY will do anything to stop mining.
