They know what happens when they get caught, but for some reason they can't resist the storage area in the back of my office.
Sorry for the crappy cell phone camera.

You can buy Preying Mantis eggs on line ! Might think about raising a few and releasing a couple now and then in the back room !
Or, buy a box of 22 Bird shot !

You can find your own mantis eggs if you know what to look for. We've hatched them in a dwarf spruce on our deck before. Little ones everywhere in the spring. You're right, I should have turned them loose in the office.

Not many animals actually eat widows. Alligator lizards out here. Perhaps a skink in your area.
Not likely a mantis will eat them. Mantis hunt in the open. Widows live in darkness.

Man, fortunately those are not that abundant here. Of course we have Recluse, nine inch centipedes and bark scorpions up the wazoo. Back in Ojai, my rock piles had so many widows that ole Lowell freaked when he came to raid them before my Texas move. There is another comb footed spider that feeds on back widows. Smaller than them too so I don't know how that works. Could be the reason we have so few widows here is the huge number of different kids of spider eating wasps. We have a huge mud daubers almost two inches long that is beautiful metallic blue and really likes widows. Makes incredible mud nests like two foot long organ pipes that it stuffs with paralyzed spiders....Mel

Lots of sharp/stinging/biting things out your way. Not a fan of your fire ants, especially. I don't think I'm up to living in a place that's too hot and dry for grass to grow, guess it's the hillbilly in me.

Denmark huh? Gee based on what I see in the news, IMHO I'd rather have Trump, scorpions, widows, centipedes and fire ants than the wall to wall Muslims, hugely high taxes and nanny state socialists all y'all have messing up your countries in Scandinavia. Besides, a little danger makes things more interesting. Old Europe just sounds crowded, too PC and boring as all get out.
Garage rocker, Those fire ants are a royal pain all right. Those boogers sting so hard they can almost make your leg buckle and afterwards they itch like a bygod for days. Just had to bait the yard as new mounds really pop up after a rain. Scorpions aren't too bad as the stings hurt like Hell but go away fairly fast.

Dear Mel Didn't meen to offend you or anyone else and yes Denmark clearly have some issues and some battels to fight, but i promise you that if you swing by some day I'll show you that it's still possible to have a great time in Denmark.

No offense taken *S*. After all, you're not here and I'm not there so neither of us has a handle on the other folks' range. To be fair, my nephew just got back from a vacation to Denmark and he liked it but he was amazed at how crowded Europe is and how much dope was around in Denmark. He's a very conservative kid and lives in a small rural town like me. Far as I'm concerned, they would have to build a bridge so I could drive there cause I do not like plane travel. ( Flying incident back in college *L*). I myself prefer the wide open spaces slow country living and my horses. Whatever floats your boat but tourism is not my thing.....Mel

Stayed in a small town in Texas this summer and meet a really nice Young Girl trying to study and support her self. She lived on a farm in the country side and invited us to come and visit her on her farm. So we did and that is one of our Best memories from our trip.

We are practically infested with them here in N.CA. You don't see the big-un's that often because they are very shy but I could walk you around my back yard and point to probably 20 different "nests" marked with their tell-tale sticky disorganized webs. They stay out of the house and I stay out of dark places (ugg..) so we get along just fine.

Instead, this one was collected and released in the woods behind my house. I guess you can't say I have a 'zero tolerance' policy towards them. Fun to keep the wife thinking I'm crazy and unpredictable too. "Why would you bring a poisonous spider home with you?"
Don't worry @shotgunner, we both know it's 'venomous'.
